  • Considering a 'Saeco Royal Cappuccino' but have questions...

    Hi

Still a noob when it comes to the art of coffee making but still like a good coffee. We had a DeLonghi ESAM3500 for the last 5 years and have just had the 3rd thermoblock fail so it's time for a change, of sorts. I still want semi automatic [at this point in life] mainly for the ease, but am willing to learn to froth milk with a steam wand [we mainly drink flat white, but like it hot]. My main question is that with the Saeco Royal Cappuccino and using the steam wand will I be able to get a hot coffee? The Delonghi was never quite there, and towards the end we were heating the milk in the microwave (I know, I know...). The ESAM3500 was fully automatic, you just took the milk jug out of the fridge and pushind it in and pushed a button (once we'd found a local place that roasted their own beans that we liked and the grind and strength was set)
Also, as the Saeco comes with a 2 year warranty I'm thinking that I should get a better run out of it? (read mostly good stuff but some bad-ish too)

So will using the steam wand for the milk and setting the Saeco to max temp get me where I want to go?
    and any comments on reliability/longevity?

    Thanks in advance

We have one of these at work. Steam pressure is low but manageable for 2 coffees. You can heat the milk as hot as you like, but I'd suggest preheating cups and steaming milk slightly less.
The shots on this machine are the problem. Good beans at finest grind setting and max dose still result in thin watery gushing shots.
For the money, in a home environment I'd look at something else that gives you more control over grind and dose.

      Hi TD,

Steaming on the Saeco is similar to how you'd do it on a manual machine. You steam longer to get it hotter and turn it off when you're done. So you'll have to learn how to judge milk temperature, or get some Temp Tags for your milk jug (or similar)

As far as autos go, the Royal Cap can make a decent shot. If you're doing everything right and still not getting a good shot, the grind adjustment may need re-calibrating (by a technician),

Interesting. Will try and convince the 'custodian' that it needs a service and recalibration.
            Thanks for the tip.
