As a matter of interest there is a forum on the home page devoted entirely to milk Milk Froth and Bubbles

Interesting observation, my partner is a light milk drinker and so I've only ever used A2 light. Seems I may be onto a good thing as I would naturally be a full fat milk drinker...

Hi Folks,
I've been extremely busy at work with major projects for April. When I get home I have been very distracted creating my first blog site for musical instrument environments. As a result, I still have not looked further into these machines.
However, while not relevant to this thread, I did find an interesting outcome from changing milk to the 'A2 light'; Wow, what a difference to the current drinks. The Cappu's are much more creamy and tasty. I'm not going back; whether you buy into the permeate debate or not!
Cheers, and thanks for the replies, your a great bunch

Has nothing to do with bashing, we're simply expressing the opinion that the particular brand is not to our/my liking, just the same as there are a few here who promote VST at every opportunity, as is their right.Originally posted by okitoki View Posthaha... the VST basket bashing continues... I've been enjoying mine, but as Morgz said, YMMV
agree... love to be able to find a $3.5K GS3 as well

Welcome to the club Morgz.Originally posted by Morgz View PostI'm not convinced that the VST baskets are necessary, especially for someone stepping up from an appliance coffee maker to a machine like the Giotto. I have a set and they've been relegated back the top drawer. Too finicky for my liking.

Vario : $675 (they shopped around in bricks & mortar)
Pullman 316 / Premium Tamper matched to a full set of VST ridgeless baskets from things coffee (site sponsor w outstanding service). Getting them matched will save you a lot of long term grief. Around $400.
Then I sent them off to check a few machines ranging from the Sunbeam 7000 & Breville 920 to the Exobars and the (way over budget) LM GS3. You need to figure out your own trade off between ease of use, size on bench, wiring / plumbing needs, performance and cost (and perhaps even styling, if that is your thing). Basically, any of those will do the job for a while, whilst the circa $3,500 GS3 will be difficult to upgrade until a few new ideas come through the pipeline.

As for a $3500 GS3, I'd like to find that shop!

Here's another thought for your consideration: Which would you enjoy more? 1. Upgrade your cappuccino equipment to higher models , or, 2. Acquire a diversity of coffee maker types and enjoy making the best possible coffee from each them. I'm no expert, my equipment is by this website's standards very basic, but rather than pay large amounts of money for a very fancy coffee machine, I have enjoyed making coffee from an assortment of simple items such as a moka pot (received as a "Kris Kringle" gift), a siphon, a strainer jug for making iced coffee, a Bodum burr grinder, an old cast-iron wok for roasting, and an old icy-pole stick for stirring coffee in the siphon. Each morning I now ask myself what style of coffee I want, and I enjoy exploring a variety of often great outcomes.

Colin,
I was in Peak the other day and they had a Giotto PP on the bench for sale (the other week it was still in its box!). If you like the styling, and you can afford to buy both it an a suitable grinder (as well as other accessories, but the grinder is the absolutely crucial one), then I don't think there are too many ways in which you could go wrong by doing so. There are other choices styling wise (I hate the Giotto styling) and design-wise but they're mostly pretty subtle.

I recently upgraded from Sunbeam cafe series to a Macap M4d grinder, great and looks fantastic in chrome, and a Rocket Giotto Premium Plus V2, also a looks fantastic and once both dialled in makes better espresso/lattes than virtually all cafes. Wife loves her morning coffees! Go for it, get some training then have fun!

You be surprised after making better coffee you might be able to convert your wife.
My GF always hated coffee before as she always associated instant coffee as " coffee ". Now she wants her daily fix each morning

Hi Colin,
The coffee machine can steam milk for hot choc as well to keep your better half happy, then start introducing her to mocha, then latte then cappa and then macchiato and then espresso and then there will be two coffee drinkers at your household
