Agreed. We use dry teflon lube.

G'Day freshpot, welcome to Coffee Snobs.

Sorry to say I completely disagree with your advice.

Grease will attract fine coffee grounds and any other rubbish around causing it to stick in the thread this in turn will make adjustment more difficult and the burr carrier harder to remove and clean up when cleaning is required.

Clean the threads thoroughly and leave them dry.

Thanks for the replies so far everyone; Okitoki, I do clean and soak the shower screen every fortnight when I do the chemical back flush - and I give the disperser a scrub and wipe down - but the video is helpful for disassembling the disperser for additional cleaning... am curious to hear anyones advice on descaling the machine...

your post didnt mention about cleaning the shower screen on the Giotto, and I recently did mine after 1 months of use, and you can see a layer of fine coffee buildup inside the shower screen that can be easily rinsed off or use a soft brush to clean out... there is also a water disperser I would take off to give a quick clean too... good time to check if your gasket is still in good condition and need to be replace

found this youtube video that made it very easy for me on my first time

agree with Yelta... the mazzer super jolly i have is very easy to clean... having a hand held vac can also make the job alot cleaner without grinds flying everywhere I mark off where the zero point and my "normal" grinding spot is using a marker pen, then after cleaning, I would then screw it till I reach my zero point and then back off to my "normal" start off point. this should be pretty close to where you were before.

    G'Day Pbags,

Cant offer advice re the Giotto, however I have a Mazzer Mini, its a simple job to clean the burrs and burr chamber, UNPLUG THE MACHINE FROM THE POWER POINT make a note of your adjustment setting then remove the hopper and the locating screw in the adjuster collar, unscrew the top burr carrier, all will be revealed, I clean off any caked on coffee with the aid of a wooden skewer and a brush only takes a few minutes, then reverse the disassembly process, screw the burr carrier all the way down until the burrs are touching, then back the adjuster off to your original setting, all done, you will never have to use Grindz again.

  • Advice on maintenance - Rocket Giotto + Mini Mazzer Grinder

    Hi All,

I'm after some advice on my home Rocket Giotto + Mini Mazzer Grinder - they've just celebrated their second birthday and I'm wondering if there's anything I should be doing at this point to keep them in good working order?

    Here's my general routine/usage:

    – I use the machines roughly twice a day to make milk based coffee (so only 2-3 coffees per day, around 20 or so per week)
    – I back flush with cleaner every two weeks
    – I only put filtered water (using one of Bombora's bench top filters) through the machine (I'm in Melbourne CBD).
    – I use 'grindz' burr cleaning mix through the grinder ever 6 months.
    – I replace the group head seal as soon as it loses its grip in the group head (every 6 months I think?)

There's nothing inherently wrong with them at the moment, but just wondering if it's a good idea to have the burrs replaced and having someone descaling it etc? I definitely wouldn't be comfortable doing it myself, but wasn't sure if 'it isn't broke' then to leave it or not...

Cheers - any help much appreciated.
Working...
