Breville Oracle Owners Thread BES980XL
Post #2871 on this page tells you how to find it on the BES900. Maybe it's the same
http://coffeesnobs.com.au/brewing-eq...thread-58.html
Basically plug into PowerPoint. PowerPoint on but machine off. Hold down all four buttons (menu down arrow, up arrow and exit) then press power button
There will be a single double or triple digit number. Multiply by 10 and you've got the number of shots over 7 seconds that were pulled.
Again. That's for a bes900 so dunno if it will be the same.

Couple of steam wand questions after some maintenance/repair mine recently had. I get some dripping from the needle when running steam that I can't remember having before.
How much side to side movement does your wand have at the end when down? Mine has a good 5mm. I can't remember it being that 'loose' before the repair.
When you take off the metal cap and red rubber grommet/seal thing to soak the tip, how far on is the white plastic bit screwed on? See in the attached pic - is that shoulder on the white bit right up against the metal on your machines?

Hi guys ive come across another issue with my machine and trying to call breville is like trying to get blood out of a stone.
My machine is not even 3 weeks old and its already told me to descale it. So i thought what the heck and did a descale on it in sunday. Well three days later and it is saying to descale it again?!
I have the water hardness set to 1 does that have anything to do with it?
Surely i shouldnt have to descale it again? Right?!

Hi Guys, thought I may get some advice here, purchased my new Breville BES980XL, been working great until a week ago, the milk stopped frothing, I have cleaned it as per the manufacturers instructions and still my milk will not froth, it heats to the temp etc, I purchased it in Feb of 2015, and have emailed Breville to see what is what with it, upto now I have loved the simplicity of it and the coffee has been amazing, the frothing thing is really annoying, I have tried manual and auto mode, nothing seems to work. Thanks

Had mind for almost 2 weeks now and functioning perfectly so far, so unfortunately can't help with this problem.
On another thing I have noticed that could catch someone out is its probably a got idea as soon as the milk finishes heating is to remove the milk pitcher immediately as to prevent milk from making its way up into the steam wand paths. As it would be easy for the auto function to finish heating and just leave the pitcher there for a minute or two while your doing other things, even with the auto purge function it doesn't take much for milk to go hard and cause problems.

My steam wand is pristine. Theres no residue or hardened milk. After waiting 4 weeks as Breville told me, I called back. they now tell me a new unit won't be available at least until May. From reading other posts with the same issue, it seems there may be a problem with the auto frothing long term. My pump growls loudly and the pressure from the steam wand is not what it once was. I tried everything Breville suggested as well as switching out the tip with the included new parts. I can steam manually and it works well. Auto froth simply heats the milk and that's all. I don't mind waiting for a new one if they do in fact have a solution and/or there is no problem with the machine I get going forward. Otherwise, we're very happy with the machine, coffee, and ease of use.

I don't mean the larger white ring at the top of the pic, but the smaller (duller white) shoulder (for want of a better word) plastic screw in part that holds the temperature sensor needle in the centre. It looks like it ought to be screwed in a bit more.Originally posted by Ipoto View PostIt is ok like this. When you screw the metal cap on again it will push the white ring up and seal.
What about side to side play of the end of the steam arm anyone?

Hi jaybee25
We are currently investigating this with our NPD team. For now your machine does not need to be descaled again. Will post here with our findings.

Hi pojomato,Originally posted by pojomato View PostHi Guys, thought I may get some advice here, purchased my new Breville BES980XL, been working great until a week ago, the milk stopped frothing, I have cleaned it as per the manufacturers instructions and still my milk will not froth, it heats to the temp etc, I purchased it in Feb of 2015, and have emailed Breville to see what is what with it, upto now I have loved the simplicity of it and the coffee has been amazing, the frothing thing is really annoying, I have tried manual and auto mode, nothing seems to work. Have you run through all the following:
1. Make sure steam wand is always in the down position and able to automatically purge each and every time.
2. If you do not hear the wand automatically purge, manually purge a 5 second burst of steam. This ensures that any milk residue inside the steam tip does not remain to clog the holes.
3. When finished steaming milk, rinse jug thoroughly. Any warm/hot milk left over the jug will affect the result of the next jug.
4. Cold milk straight from the fridge will texture much more effectively than milk that is left on the bench for a while.
5. Run a deep clean with the provided sachet of Steam Wand Cleaner - Fill jug with hot water and submerge steam wand overnight if blockages occur.
6. The holes in the steam tip may be blocked. Even holes that are partially blocked will have a large impact on foam volume. Use the provided pin tool to clear the holes.
7. Worst case scenario, there is a red silicon tip (gasket) that can be located inside the metal steam tip. If this is missing or damaged it will be very difficult to achieve any texture – large bubbles will form instead.
Cheers,
Kat
