  • Well my machine arrived back from service today. It seems as they have done a firmware update and so far so good. They also seem to have made a change to the seal on the group head as the group handle now locks with a firm feel. Enjoying having my machine back!

    • I've just become another proud owner of an Oracle machine. It took about two weeks for my wife to go from "only if you sell all your other machines first*" to her actually buying me one for Fathers Day! She may not be a very good secret keeper, so I got it today. :-)

The most amazing part is that my wife can't have caffeinated drinks, so it really was very kind of her. I'm thinking now of getting a tamper so that I can use my previous grinder for some decaf for my wife and do my coffee in the Oracle (or the other way around). Is this the best way to go, or is it easy enough to swap between bean types?

*I have a suspicion that she will be displeased if I don't sell some other machines now anyway, but nobody's taking my Portaspresso. I need something for at work!

      • Just as a follow up to my Grind Issue........... thanks to Kat (and Matthew, and my own patience ;-) ) we have managed to resolve my grind issues. The Oracle is now 9 times out of 10 pouring the perfect shot. My tamp pressure is 5 and polish 4, my grind settings is at 18 (18 is my new baseline), my burr is at setting 4 and with a slight grind tweak here and there, depending on beans and roast date, Im now extracting very good shots. Infact I would say shots rivaling most of my favourite coffee shops and we are no novices when it comes to coffee!
Ive had both manual and super automatics and nothing comes close to this in terms of making an excellent, and just as importantly, consistent shot.

Thanks all, thanks Matthew and a big thanks Kat

          • Good to hear your grind issue is resolved ClintoKL. I agree once your dialed in correctly you can consistently with ease pull good shots. You will from time to time have to tweak the grinder as the beans age, changes in humidity etc. But that's all part of the fun.

            • I realise this is the 'owners thread' and I don't want to hijack it, but it hardly seems worth making a new thread for my question: I was wondering whether it goes on special often? I've seen people pick it up for ~$2000, so looking to get a similar price. At the moment it seems to be going for $2300. Any idea whether I'd have much luck walking in a talking it down to 2k? (I'm in Melb)

              • Yes, definitely keep your eye peeled for sales and discounts. $2k and sometimes lower are achievable.

                  • Hello all,
I'm looking at getting one of these babies for my birthday. And I've tried to get a demo but Breville never got back to me, and most of the stores in Melbourne only have them as a special "order in" item.
I have a couple of questions, and thanks already to the many reviews on here, they have been great..

1: The Breville USA website has the machine height at 18 inches. This will JUST fit where I need it to go. I Just want to check that that measurement includes the bean hopper on the top?

2: I drink Long blacks (the Australian version of an Amercano) where (generally) it's a double shot with a touch of water added.
Can the ORACLE dispense a decent double shot with in the one hit ie I don't have to pull a single shot, reload, and do it again to get a double? Some machines I've used aren't designed for it and will just over extract the cofee.......

                    THANKS!

                    • I still haven't dialled in the long black (I mostly have espresso only), but it does it properly. That is, a nice double shot and then water from a separate spout. Even if you don't use the single button long black, a double espresso and then a touch of the hot water button will do you. No need to reload anything.

I'm not home right now, but if I get there before anybody else responds, I'll measure the height for you.

Many thanks. No rush on the measurements, I won't be purchasing For a few weeks.
                        Thanks again!

                        • Im struggling to dial in the auto long black settings. Basically you have to manually measure the shots time, which is not performed on the Oracle itself, unlike when you just pull a regular shot which is weird? I gave up trying to set the long black auto function and just pull the shot and then hit the hot water button to top up the mug with hot water. The bottom line is I prefer an Americano and so fill the hot water first and then add the shot(s) thus not destroying the crema. Either way you wont be disappointed.

                          • No problem. I'm home now so I whipped out the measuring tape.

The top of the hopper cover comes in at 453mm (just a hair under 17 7/8") when everything is sitting on the bench. You need to get it up to 460mm in order to remove the lid, but you'd have a lot of trouble getting beans in there if you only had that much space! You'd need 455mm so that you can lower the little wheel and move the machine forward on the bench (for access to fill the hopper or to remove it and clean in there).

Any other measurements you want (or anyone else I guess)?

if you have a David Jones store card, they sometimes do specials for white goods. Maybe worthwhile checking their site from time to time.

                              • I picked one up for $2,000 last week from Harvey Norman. Walked into the store and said I'd buy it on the spot if they could do it for $2k, took them all of one minute to agree!

i must admit, I've found it pretty difficult to dial in the right settings for my week old Clement beans
