  • Can anyone help me with using volume rather that time duration for the shot.
I have changed the setting from Sec to Flo in the advanced menu options.
I then fill the portafilter, selected the normal menu, select shot vol, 1 cup, press select, let the shot go untill it reaches 30ml then press select again. the machine makes a long beep, i do the same for 2 cup but with 60ml.
My problem is that it doesnt seem to be working as it should, eg. When i next go to extract a double shot it will stop at 9sec shot clock rather than 25-30 and only about 15ml comes out.
i had a look at the manual at it has the following under programming shot volume/duration:
"The 1 CUP & 2 CUP buttons useduration to control espresso volume.Access the Advanced Features if youwish to use volumetric controls insteadof duration to determine espressovolume. Refer to 'Flow MeasurementMethod (VoL)', page 25)."

So should i be programming using a different method?

    • Our Oracle is a Breville replacement to our first machine and is now approximately 6 months old. We now see a "Service" message on the display when the machine powers on and is warming. Once it is up to temperature, the "Service" message goes off. I've read the manual and researched this, but I cannot find any information regarding a "Service" message. Please advise.

Call Breville and get it Serviced!

        • So, are you saying the machine has to be boxed & shipped 3,000 miles to be serviced every 5-6 months or approximately 1,000 cups?

          • touch wood my machine is going strong. We have had it for 12-18 months now and is used everyday, even had a bag of beans with some rocks in it which jammed the grinder and made some horrible noises but once removed it worked fine. I have one of the older machines which doesn't time out and I have it set to come on at 4:20am and is warmed up ready for first cup at 4:45 when i'm leaving for work. I then turn it off and my wife starts it up again when she gets up so on/off at least 2 times a day.
I may even still have a copy of my receipt somewhere if anyone wants it as I was one of the lucky people who picked it up for just over $1700.

The machine has some inconsistent times but overall i'm stoked with it and would certainly recommend to others. I love the fact you can make a decent coffee so quick.

            • Hi all.

Today I became the owner of a lightly-used Oracle. I'm coming from a BES900 so most things about it are pretty familiar. One thing, however, has me stumped: The steamer's thermometer reads 35 degrees (F) high - consistently. So, e.g., when set to the maximum temp of 170F, it shuts off when the milk is 135F.

Has anyone else had this issue? Can anything be done about it?

(Yes, steam wand holes clean, gasket and o-ring look fine, milk is above the white thingy, etc.)

Thanks for any and all input.

              Owen.

After waiting over 1 week for an email reply which never came, I called Breville Oracle Support. I was told a "service" light is not owner serviceable and the machine must be shipped for repair. A replacement unit is not an option for a "service" message issue. Shipping takes approximately 1 week each way from my location and the repair takes 3 weeks. This means 5 weeks without coffee. I'm not happy about the relatively short amount of time this machine has been working and I'm also not happy about the fact that no service manual is available and no related information is available or even published about a "service" message in the owner/operator manual. At this point, if there was a published service manual, I would go ahead and void the warranty to repair the machine myself. We are now considering purchasing an additional coffee machine (Not a Breville) since it's apparent there are likely to be ongoing issues with the Oracle. While I do like the operation and resulting cup of coffee, I don't think these machines are proven and perhaps may just not work for an extended amount of time. That said, the "service" message disappeared yesterday and has not returned.

                • i have noticed lately my milk frothing is getting worse to the point it is set at max froth and I barely get any, milk still gets up to temp.

machine is always warmed up prior to use and i open the valve manually for a few seconds to drain out any water in the spout. Milk type doesn't seem to matter (only use full cream)

have tried cleaning and soaking the spout bit but no luck.

jug full, 3/4 full or just over the line it doesn't seem to matter

                  any tips?

                  • Hello all,

Have really enjoyed reading this thread and thank you to all the fine contributors.

Just ordered an Oracle today after tossing up between some sort of super auto and the Oracle. Decided on the Oracle in the end as it looks like one can get something better out of than the super autos without much more effort, and has the ability to grow that quality as my interest and willingness grows as well. Also love the idea of the white gloves service which I will take advantage of after I have had it a few weeks.

Have only had a cheap De Longhi manual for the last couple of years, never got anything good out of it (blaming me, not the unit) and before that Krups, Gaggia and Saeco semi-automatics. Same story. Hoping my coffee life is about to change.

Anyways, for those interested in purchasing at what looks like a good price, I ordered from Myer online who have it for $1999 until Sunday (6th December) plus $150 cashback from Breville - so $1850 (and $40 Myer vouchers if you're a member).

                    Looking forward!

                    Jeff

                    • Recently purchased the Oracle and gradually learning it's quirks - getting a pretty good cup now - certainly superior to results I had been getting with my DeLonghi full auto. My one gripe is the lack of dose adjustment for a single cup. The double is perfect for me and I have adjusted for my current batch of beans (now about 3 weeks post-roast) so a grind of 15 gives me 26 seconds of extraction prior to blonding. My wife on the other hand prefers a much weaker shot and it appears impossible to achieve this as the shorter extraction for the same dose of beans does not give you a true single shot.

So I am looking for alternative methods of making this single shot happen. Has anyone tried using a single filter basket from the Breville Dual Boiler with the auto grinder/tamper on the Oracle? Would this work?

                      • Replying to my own post here, to somewhat sheepishly retract my question / problem about inaccurate steam-shutoff temps.

As it turns out, the machine I bought (used) had undergone the curious removal of not only all its cleaning tools, but also the red gasket that seals around the temp-sensing tip of the steam wand.

I had seen a plastic piece further up the wand and had mistaken it for the "gasket" in the diagrams. The temp weirdness, combined with the fact the machine's "frothing" seemed to consist of blowing big soap-bubble things into the milk, made me realize something more basic was missing from the equation.

One $5 gasket later, and it's now behaving perfectly. Onwards...

                        Owen.

Unfortunately the Oracle is only designed to work with a double basket that's supplied. That is the official word from Breville. I'm just guessing that if you tried a single basket you would have trouble with the tamping mechanism not functioning properly.

Not sure where you are, but I can fit my 10cm, (3.9") coffee mug under teh spouts when only a double capp will do
