The question of 'budget' is silly when I've already listed the exact product I want, therefore I put in a silly answer. Putting a serious answer would just give vendors information about how much they can upsell or how negotiable they can be with me. Openly mocking a potential customer on public forum doesn't exactly put you or your business in a positive light.

I have zero financial interest in the trade.
You're right in the exact economic definition sense of the word. I was actually referring to the vibe of the whole place, this being my first thread upon joining. It seems to me (so far anyway) that this forum is just full of 'sponsors' and 9 out of 10 members who are blindly loyal to the sponsors. I simply made a thread asking for input about where I can buy a particular machine, mentioned that I am open to the possibility of buying overseas, and the first reply is this guy who is so obviously pushing an agenda. I just read through this thread: http://coffeesnobs.com.au/brewing-eq...voluzione.html back in 2011 and this Talk_Coffee guy was playing the same game even back then. The OP there was nothing but polite and civil till the very end despite the replies being almost all scaremongering and not genuine good-faith advice. In fact, after reading that thread I'm tempted to buy overseas and make a similar thread to break down all savings, along with instructions on how to change the brew temperature of the Giotto and change the plug type, or internal switch (needless step to take, but that guy was using it to scare people in the other thread so whatever, I'm a sparkie and I can handle mods) or whatever else was mentioned in that thread to scare people away from buying overseas.

All I can say is... Thank Christ you're here to save us from ourselves then! With an attitude like that I cannot wait to see what a valuable contribution you will end up making to this, obviously flawed and very needy, forum. You come across as a superhero of sorts. I envision a brown coloured cape and a huge "S" on your chest, which... of course... could not possibly refer to "Superman" as that has already been taken. Perhaps we could come up with a more appropriate word starting with that letter.

Maybe not for you and like-minded members but for the lurkers and the google searchers, which are actually the potential customers ready to open their wallets.

To potential buyers: I just paid under $1800 for my Giotto and all it took was a phone call and two emails, when it arrives I'll even post a pic if I care to by then. PM me if you want details, posting publicly here and I'll just attract more criticism. Don't get ripped off, is local whatever worth a grand in price difference?

On a side note, I just LOVE using Australian ripoff merchant shops as showrooms, reading their websites and watching their youtube clips for advice, then buying overseas. It's what I do - hate me. I think I'm done here - ciao.

And with a swish of his brown cape, off he goes. He'll be sorely missed... such a class act.

Kind of gives one a warm glow inside to read about the support for Australian businesses and workers - NOT...

At least he showed his true colour.

My guess is a deliberate 2nd agenda........

                    I don't know about that ...

Refusing to play games with someone who simply wants to abuse services that are being offered responsibly to the wider Australian coffee consuming public earns my respect and support. The less time and energy wasted on people who simply want to exploit your showroom with no real intent to purchase locally, the more time and energy can be diverted to serious customers who value the service that site sponsors offer. Personally I respect someone who calls it like it is.

Mind you, if by your own admission you have provided a nonsensical answer to a serious question the criticism hardly seems fair.

I have always appreciated the sense of community that pervades the CS forum. Support is offered with integrity. Debate can be frank and robust as it should be. Blowing in and out to exploit the wisdom that is offered for me does not sit well with that sense of community which I have always valued on this forum.

                    Best wishes, Russell

Perhaps the thread should have been titled "Cheapest, dodgiest, and most unpatriotic place to buy a Rocket Giotto"...............

At least then he would have received all the attention he deserved
