Pix quick and dirty against the usual suspects- just after it hit our demo bench...

looks great, and the size is perfect for those who lack bench space for sure.

                Agreed John...

For mine, best looking machine in the compact market. No shots yet but the steam is typical Giotto- read terrific...

Wow, that's one tight looking machine. If I was in the market now, rather than 12 months ago it might've made my shortlist! (And made it within my wife's expectations on benchspace...)

I'm going 70:30. That said, heaps of customisation at present using copper- so it's certainly contemporary.

We went with a white demo....

looks good, i assume it'd be dearer than vibiemme jnr?

                      Rocket Appartamento Espresso Machine Review

And as per the link above, seems vibiemme jnr uses better parts inside (Sirai pressure stat, insulated boiler)

We're had quite a few of these up on the bench now and for those wondering on customisation for the side panels, it's a doddle.

The side inserts are simple to remove and replace with anything an owner might choose: different metals, wrap, glass, different perspex, marble, you name it. I imagine that many will have a variety of different looks as time passes.

The internal build is great and accessibility for service is absolutely fine. Internally it reminds me of Giotto Premium/Premium Plus.

Scace has been on it and we got a walk up 94 deg after 40 minute idle which was replicated across 5 back to back shots. We then went back to work!

One item of note which some may not be aware of is that the valves are not spring load like they are in Giotto, R58/60. The Appartamento valves simply have a grommet in the rear of the valve stems- a la VBM. You only need to stop the flow rather than force them.

All in all, I feel that the machine has delivered everything we hoped for. Three rolled out our door with new owners yesterday and I know that at least one of the new owners frequents CS. I'm hoping we might see an owner review in the not too distant future.

Would I have one as my own machine if I was shopping in this price range? Yes.

I am thinking about Appartamento versus Giotto Premium Plus V3 with PID. Both are Heat Exchange, but Giotto has a PID.
Given the price is about $300-$400 i.e. 10-15% in favour of Appartamento, the question I have is which one to buy?
I don't have a problem with the machine size, I have a large kitchen. I am prepared to spend extra $400 if the V3 PID will deliver better espresso or will be more reliable/longer lasting.
So, which one makes a better espresso out of these two and which one will be more long lasting, more reliable?
The V3 PID seems like a tried and proven product (is it?), and Appartamento is a new kid on the block.
How long will these machines last? Service/repair costs? Any other pros and cons?
                          Many thanks in advance

                            G'day a_r,

Both are HX machines, so as such, the only benefit is that the PID in the Giotto will react more rapidly to change in temp when compared to the pressurestat in the Appartamento which will be reacting to change in pressure.

The Giotto has an insulated boiler unlike the Appartamento and our thoughts are that the Giotto boiler is possibly a little thicker. The steam and hot water valves are different but steam quality and pressure is identical. In the cup, I'd think that the only differences will be the result of placebo effect.

The Appartamento might have a new face, but I see Giotto Premium in the main once the covers are off. I really don't think it's a "new kid on the block" per se.

I can't recall if you are Melbourne based, but both the Giotto and Appartamento are on our demo bench. Hope that helps...

                            Chris

Hello again. What is the optimal preheating time first thing in the morning for Appartmento and for Giotto Premium Plus PID V3 ???

Same same....All e-61 HX will need circa 30 min...

Timer? Fine so long as you have surge protection behind it
