Hi emdiz. Since working with our Appartamento I am turning it on around 7am ready for a coffee at 8am. I then don't turn it off until after lunch unless we are going out - I prefer to minimise unattended electronics in the house as we have had a few incidents in the past!). I tried turning it off after the morning brew but found we had too many people dropping in on the off chance of a coffee. Being retired means we are often at home. If we are out for the day but reckon we would like a late coffee then I turn it off and back on again when arriving home.Originally posted by emdiz View PostNewbie here! I've just bought myself an appartamento and I'm loving it so far! My question is: am I best turning the machine on only in the morning and evening when I'll be using it then turning it off or should I just leave it on? I've heard two different answers on this so would like a final answer. Thank you in advance
So, to look at your situation, I would be turning it off and then back on again.
Tony
PS: they make great coffee don't they?!

Hi Shannon and apologies for not replying earlier. We were only looking at the two machines as we have a small kitchen with not too much bench space. Looks wise I liked the Appartamento while Sue preferred the VBM. Chris demoed them both and we then chatted about them. The point that focussed me more of the Appartamento was Chris's advice that it would be the easier machine for home maintenance. As we live in Tassie I will be doing the work and I thought it an excellent point. We have not regretted the decision in any way.Originally posted by Shannon View PostHi AntC1946
I wonder if you would be willing to share your decision making process between the VBM Domobar Junior and the Rocket Appartamento? What were some of the things that swayed you to the Rocket over the VBM?
I am ever hopeful that I might be able to upgrade someday and these 2 are already a part of my shortlist so I would be interested in another users real life experience between these 2. Did you bench test any others when you saw Chris or just these 2?
Of course I will go in to a sponsor and test myself when the time comes but want to get a feel from others as well.
Cheers
Shannon.
Tony

New machine,lucky you!
Hello endiz,
Any and all domestic electrical appliances with the exception of fridges/freezers should be turned off when not in use ,we even turn off our smart TV etc,yes the microwave seems to remain on (hard to reach the power point).
Unless you intend serving coffee's all through the day, keep the thing off.My work staffroom has the espresso machines on all day, being commercial HX machines someone is regularly helping themselves to the machine from 7.30 through to 4.00pm....!
In my humble opinion , domestic electrical appliances have so much electronics on board ,you are prolonging the life of the appliance by switching off when not needed, being a new machine it does heat up quickly anyway.
Good luck with your new interest, great way to start your coffee journey, lucky duck.
My two cents worth anyway,
cheers,
Mick.

Been speaking to Chris from Talk Coffee and he's been an awesome help with giving honest reviews about the appartamento and the different grinders
Quick reply, honest service and excellent knowledge. Much appreciated. Thank you!

yayyy!!!thanks!!Originally posted by K_Bean_CoffeeIt definitely is. Rocky can do the job. ....however, you will probably want to upgrade in the near future so bundling your machine with a new grinder could be worthwhile.
Cheers, Paul

I had the tape measure out last night looking at space. I think I'll have to switch sides with the machine and grinder due to the power point and the fact that the rocket is much deeper than the silvia. That means my rocky will have issue as it is a doser model with the flick handle on the left side. Sounds like an excuse to have to upgrade to a non doser grinder that doesn't need me to have a handle hanging out the side.

I think that the Rocky is underrated. I did get a Macap M4D recently which I really like but the Rocky is an excellent grinder and is very well built, weighs about 8 or 9kg, totally solid. I think that the grinding settings are just fine. I didn't have any issues with my Rocky. The M4D is the opposite having continuous adjustment which is fine if you are very fussy. I still have the Rocky but will be selling it soon. It went without a hitch for 11 years.Originally posted by GARYCAMP View PostI just went through what you are doing after having the Silvia PID for years and finely upgraded to ECM Mechanika IV and its a joy to use the E61 the shots are better and smoother, its another world.
I still using the Rocky at the moment, its a finer setting than the Silvia but with 18grams, it still okay but I will upgrade latter for a better one, yours should handle the Rocket it just takes awhile to dial in a new machine and the proper grinder and dosing right and a lot a beans.
