Looking for something with more bells and whistles!

Hi Guys!

Looking for some info, i started my coffee journey years ago with a Silvia, i installed a PID and even wrote a full guide for CS on how to do it. I loved tinkering with stuff, changing boiler temp for different flavour profiles and all that fun stuff, in the end I bought a Giotto Premium Plus for a price i couldn't refuse. It has been an amazing machine, producing some amazing coffee.
Now 5 years down the track and 4 kids later im after some tinkering fun again.
So my questions are;
What is my machine worth these days to sell? (In great condition)
What could I get for that price second hand that has more bells and whistles....if anything, it's ok if it's older within reason, something that I could play with temps and pressure etc

Hoping someone can help me out!

Re price, have a look through the sold section here, will give you an idea of range of prices in the past as a good start.

Re the tinkering, sounds like an older machine that you can tweak and improve on would be the way to go. but the steps up from a HX giotto would be dual boiler machine, and they usually already come with PID.

Why dont you look into getting a variable pump for the giotto so you can play with pressure profiling?

Thanks artman, dual boiler was what i was thinking, im not looking for a machine to install a PID in, just loved using the PID so a machine that comes with one would be a massive plus!

So are there any good coffee producing dual boilers with PID in my price range? [emoji3]

If you purchased it for a price you couldn't refuse, it may have been about $2k those five years ago?

Circa $1200-$1400 (ish) is the going price for anything up to Plus V1 (aka Premium Plus) these days.

I don't keep an eagle eye on the for sale section, but from memory I don't think you'll do any better than what you've already got for that price. There's been a few Rocket R58s sold here but they're all $3000+. For a decent European, 2nd hand, dual boiler with PID you're looking at $2K minimum I think. The only other option would be Breville. The BES920 would give you a chance to play with lots of variables and you should be able to get a 2nd hand one for <$1000. Might not be a long term option, but if you're after something a bit different for a while it could be worth considering.
