  • ECM Technika Profi IV delayed water at group head.

Hi fellow coffee lovers and seasons greetings to you all.

I've noticed my machine behaving differently lately.

Usually, over the last few years, my machine will express water the instant I open the group valve. Lately, it will give a surge of steam, then take 4-5 seconds before water starts at the group head.

I'm sure this symptom indicated a problem somewhere and hoping someone can shed some light on the cause.

    Cheers.

Please don't take this advice. I like to problem solve. I feel that the thermo siphon flow is severely restricted or blocked. So that the water in the group or the top of the container in the boiler gets too hot and converts to steam. When you activate the lever this steam is expelled and the pump pushes cooler water through the inner boiler chamber into the group.
It suggests the thermo syphon process that circulated the water is the problem.
What happens if you do a cooling flush before extraction?
I am sure others will give a much more sensible answer.

I usually do a cooling flush. That's how I've become aware of the problem. I used to get a bit of steam with the water immediately but now I just get a little steam, but no water for 4 seconds or thereabouts. The water is then immediate in subsequent openings of the group valve.

It sounds like the unit was running a hot. I have been using 3 different HX machines since 2008 and I have never needed a cooling flush as I have never had steam coming from the group.
I don't know the details but it suggest the restrictor in the e61 was incorrect and it may since have got some scale build up.
If you live near a sponsor expecially one who has technical understanding it might be worth having a service. Last year my service person ran some descale through the thermo syphon as they said there was some build up of scale this was a 8 year old Rocket.

          Hello Bervy,
Sounds like a simple scale build up related issue that a general service will solve quite easily.
