Thanks noidle22.
In the light of that info I'll sleep easy :-) I have a few spare D45X microswitches from a repair on a previous machine as I had to buy 5, so I should be set for a while.
Cheers,
Matt.

What's Wrong with Mater Pressurestats?

Apparently there was a bad batch of Mater pressurestats a few years ago, I haven't experienced this personally but yours is probably fine.
People opt for Sirai or commercial pressurestats to reduce maintenance costs and increase reliability. You can replace the diaphragms if they go bad and there's 3 sets of contacts so when one wears out (which will take a long time on a domestic machine with a 1200W or so element) you can switch to another set.
They're fairly noisy and large and some machines can't fit them.
The microswitch that the Mater pressurestat uses, a Cherry D45X, is probably one of the best in class in terms of actuation force which is important. The less force required to operate the switch, the less work the diaphragm has to do to operate it, thus, a smaller deadband. I've experimented with a few other switches but none were an improvement on the D45X.
If the diaphragm itself goes bad, you need to replace the whole pressurestat but they're only $50 or so.

What's Wrong with Mater Pressurestats?
Hi all,
I've just acquired a second hand Vibiemme Domobar Junior and while adjusting the OPV, noticed it has a Mater pressurestat.
i've read of people replacing them with a Jaeger or Sirai pressurestat, and was wondering why? Is it because the micro switch fails, or is the hysteresis/deadband too wide on this pressurestat?
I'm curious because the micro switch is inexpensive and easily replaced, and different switches (same size) may have different hysteresis/ switching characteristics, in which case I may be able to tighten the pressure/temperature range within which it operates.
i should state that I am a maintenance electrician by trade, so safely playing with appliances is within my skill set.
Regards,
Matt.Tags: None
