Breville Oracle or Bes920???? Help!

We bought the Oracle last Christmas and absolutely love it. Cost just under $2k with a special welcome pack that included extra jug, cloth and in-house demonstration. As parents of a young child, sleepless nights are common and we don't have the energy to go to the cafe for a pick me up. We are now producing delicious tasting coffee quickly and easily. Highly recommend the Oracle

In the last few months I've gone from a Rancilio Silvia to an Oracle, and I couldn't be happier. I appreciate the speed, consistency and ease of making what is really a very good coffee that the Oracle provides. It's very hard to get it wrong, and to my palate the coffee is on par with most cafes, using good beans. I'd highly recommend the Oracle to anyone, but I suspect the majority of punters on a coffee forum will be happier spending a bit more time and effort on making their coffee. It's horses for courses.
Cheers, Matt

Breville Oracle or Bes920???? Help!
I can vouch for Antony @ Casa Espresso's pricing, kindness and the great equipment combo.
So you might get 2-5 years life from the Breville and it will end up in landfill but these other machines should be around in 10 years and easily repairable.

I would consider built in grinders to be a negative personally, as the extra heat from the machine does the beans no good at all. I've never had anything made by the oracle, but I own a 920. From what I've read other people say the milk from the oracle is close to what you can get from the 920, but not quite there. So whether it's worth the extra money is entirely dependent on your priorities. For me the coffee and the control is the priority which is why I went with the 920. I would still recommend getting into your nearest site sponsor and discussing options with them. A Breville will do well to last 5 years, whereas if you get a machine that will last you'll get less features for the (short term) money, but you'll also get more in resale if you want to upgrade later. If you're in Sydney, Jet Black Espresso or Di Bartoli will look after you. If you're in Melbourne, Casa Espresso or ***** will look after you.
As for grinders, what's your budget there? If you're looking at a 920 the bare minimum you should consider is the matching smart grinder 820. There are plenty better out there if you're willing to spend a little more or buy second hand.

Entry price for something that most espresso enthusiasts would agree was a reasonable combination of espresso machine and grinder you would be in the ballpark of $3k. That would get you something like an entry model macap grinder and a entry model Rocket espresso machine

Thanks Melbroaster! What would you suggest for a good espresso machine then and what would we be looking at spending? CheersOriginally posted by Melbroaster View PostIf you want appliance quality probably the breville 920 and the smart grinder is as good as you will get. You wont get great espresso equipment for that price though. If you want to get just good all around coffee buy a macap m2m and a behmor brazen and will likely outlast the breville gear many times over

TBH it's come down mainly to price. Looks like we may be able to get an Oracle close to the 920 price. Have heard good things re the breville for our price range. Friends have an Expobar but we just don't have $3k at the moment. Hubby likes to do it all himself, so he wants the 920....I'm a typical female and want the big shiney one is the auto froth and grinder in the Oracle worth the extra $$. We need a new grinder too so maybe the 920 and a new grinder? Any recommendations on grinders?

What made you narrow it down to those two?
How involved in the coffee making process do you like to be? Is near enough good enough or do you prefer to have more control even if it means a bit more work?
What quantity and type of coffees do you make?
What grinder do you have?
