  • New group head seal, compound or silicone?

Time for a new seal in the Bezerra, the current compound seal is only about 6 months old and has started to degrade already.

I'm wondering if there is any advantage to silicone, or, am I better off staying with the compound type?

From my experience, silicon gaskets last longer. I've had the same one in for a couple of years and just now looks like it needs a change (getting a bit hard).

In my experience, as well as lasting longer they also seal with less force required...

          Thanks for the input Mal.

Used the Coffee Snobs quote feature this AM, within minutes Antony from Casa Espresso responded with a very helpful reply including his phone number.

Have ordered a couple from him, one as a spare.

          Great service, very impressed.

Great success, Antony sent a couple of 8.5 mm silicone seals, they arrived this morning.

The old seal was allowing the PF to lock in at approx 5.30, new slightly thicker seal locks in at approx 6.30 with minimal pressure.

Thanks Antony and Casa Espresso for your knowledge and service.

PS if only all maintenance jobs were this simple.

After using the Silicone Gasket, you'll never want to go back to the plain old rubber ones...

              Good stuff mate.

              Mal.

                Right again Mal.

The Bezzera PF never needed much pressure to lock in, with the silicone seal even less, I'm impressed.

                Never too old to learn.

As above, with silicone seal prices not much more than the rubber, why would
You buy rubber. I am now using the same seal from a few years back on a second E61 group machine and still easy to pop out and seals perfectly with little effort.

They also come in 8.0mm (or is it 9.0) thickness so you can "adjust" where you want the handle to sit for different groups/PFs/baskets.

Great invention, just like the stainless, easy to clean IMS shower screen. Should last a lifetime in domestic use.

                  Cheers

You buy rubber because you don't want anymore kids.

OK, that was a bit cheeky. Does anyone know if I can get silicone gaskets for Lelit Combi (57mm size)?

As a matter of interest, after 12 months use the silicone seal has become quite tacky/sticky, won't wash of, still sealing fine.

                      Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes but not detrimentally. As you find, it still worked and lasted me for another 12 months.

Thanks for the reply, just wanted to know if others had experienced this, as you comment still sealing fine, just a bit tacky to handle.

I have a spare, when it gets too bad will replace it.

I can't remember mine ever being in anyway 'uncomfortable' to handle. It was a Cafelat seal, is yours?

Yes it is, Cafelat blue, really is quite sticky, for want of a better word, have never previously seen silicone degrade in that way.
