  • A guess at the cost of a new Giotto

    Hi,

I was in a small motel restaurant recently and there was a mint condition hardly use ECM Giotto Premium that had had VERY little use. I mentioned tht it was nice and the motel manager said they wanted to sell it. I know this is a tough question but what would you think was a fair price for an excellent cond model - cash pickup deal...

Thanks heaps (and I hope this is on topic...)

    Hi Cammo

Lucky you! I imagine you are aware of the retail price of these. Dont make an offer. Ask them how much they want for it....then act disinterested. Make a ridiculous offer and when they say no, thank them and head for the door. Just before you leave, turn around and offer an extra $100.

    Youre unlikely to lose out:
    a) its unlikely someone else is going to walk in and buy it, and,
    b) even if you end up having to offer a lot more than your original offer, they arent going to say no because you tried to get the bargain of a lifetime.

In the final analysis though....what is it worth to you?

Second that shrewd advice, Dennis. Always used to work for me. Though in more recent times Ive been allowed to walk out the door. Not even a phone call back afterwards. And then I had to make the first move :-[

An Isomac Millenium from my work sold last year for $1600- Id say a couple of hundred more thatn it was worth- had made maybe 600 coffees, showed slight wear. New its worth maybe 400-500 less than the Giotto.
Let us know what you find out.

If we apply the Rancilio valuation principle of 65% of RRP for a 2nd hand Silvia, a Giotto, being in similar demand is worth $1.5-1.6k Id reckon....

              Good luck!

I wonder whatever happened to this one - if the Giotto was purchased and Cammo is living happily ever after?

I hate it when I dont find out the end of the story. And if Cammo decided not to go ahead, maybe he could have let scottc in on how to find this.

                  Hey Dennis,

I was wondering the same thing!

I am still looking for one, and might be one the verge of success thanks to Chris, who has really been bending over backwards for me.
