  • I may have done too much research now... Can't decide!!

Earlier this year I posted about potentially buying a BZ-10. I stalled and saved some more $ because I really liked the look of some of the machines around the $2500 mark - namely the Appartamento. This week I was going head out and take a look at both the Rocket and the ECM Slim to finally make a decision - I am going to have to buy on specs and looks alone as I can't find anywhere in Brisbane that will let me actually test the machines out.

And then I found this beauty for such an excellent price and I've changed my short list yet again!!! https://www.casaespresso.com.au/bezzera-galatea.html

Now trying to decide if I sacrifice that extra bench space or not... Anyone want to give me opinions??

To demo machines in Brisbane I would think Crema Coffee Garage and Coffee Machine Specialists would be able to help out. Give them a call first though so they can be ready.

Hard to go wrong with the machines you're looking at in the price range. It's the little things and what appeals to you personally are the only real differentiators.

        Paralysis by analysis.

Pick any one of those, they will all make excellent coffee.

The Galatea would be the pick of the bunch. A lot of members here have been rocking them for years. Very solid workhorse.

Try this company Coffee Machine Solutions at Windsor just off Newmarket rd. where I bought my ECM Mechanika at a very good price.

...and they look really cool on the benchtop

Both the Bezzera and ECM typify their origins. The ECM with its solid German engineering and the Bezzera with classic Italian flair.

100% Accurate... definitely paralysed here I am going to head out and look at the Galatea in the flesh properly (it wasn't on my radar when I first went into Coffee Machine Specialists).

I visited them a few months ago and they tried their best to sell me the Fracino which to be honest is the most hideous machine I think I've ever seen! He didn't even want to talk about the ECM machines with me.

I had the opposite experience. Went to check out the ECM and they were very forthcoming with info. I asked about the Francino and they talked it down a little by comparison. Quite willing accept that it’s butt ugly. Maybe just served by a different person.

What the hell is Fracino! Probably their own machine with a big FAT profit.
That ex demo Pro 500 looks like a steel.
Go for it and stop the paralysis etc

Sadly it was a no-go for me. I phoned Jetblack but it's been converted to a plumbed in machine as an experiment and I am not in a position to have a machine plumbed in just yet. They can convert it back to a tank but that pushes me beyond my already stretched budget!

I decided on the ECM Barista today. Went into Crema Garage to check out the Appartamento and the Mechanika Slim and they had an ex-display Barista for sale for under $2000. I pick it up tomorrow!

Congratulations on your decision. Ypure gonna love it!!!

                          Which grinder do you have?

Also if tamping is an issue try a puck or palm tamper. Amazon have knock offs for about $20.00 usd. Brand is SMKF, is adjustable for depth and has 4 colors.

I just got mine today so my wife can tamp easypeasy. I used it for my afternoon shot and it's awesome and consistent

                            Congrats Nicole.
That’s a serious bargain. Nice work.

All set up on my bench and I'm in love! First coffees off it are great but I need to tweak a few things - the puck is coming out a bit sludgy... will need to play more with grind and tamp pressure over the next few days.
