  • VBM Domobar Junior control box changeover

    Hello

    Has anyone replaced the control box on the VBM Junior.
    I have opened up the unit but cannot figure out the easiest way to remove the blackbox.

    Thanks.

    I've changed quite a few, a pretty common failure point on the VBM Jr. It's usually held in place with a phillips head bolt and nut. Make sure machine is un-plugged , reach into the board underneath and you'll feel the nut hidden from view, hold it with one hand hand and un-screw the bolt. After it is un-done, pull the board out, you may have to move the pump plumbing to get the board out, but there is usually enough room to temporarily push it out of the way

      Thank you kofekitt , I was a little apprehensive to put pressure on the pump/plumbing , but managed to remove it.
      Can you tell me the best place to buy the part ? I am in Melbourne. It would be great if I could get one tomorrow , otherwise I'll order online.

        I'm in Sydney, can't see any stockists in Melbourne. Jetblack has it online;

          Site sponsor Coffee-A-Roma can get you VBM parts but will probably need to be ordered. (check with them?) They still sell VBM and are very familiar with the Junior. Prices were also good when I bought a few things a while back.

          CS member "Lyrebird" posted this about the VBM Jr -

          "Having just repaired / refurbished one of these things (also about 8 years old) I'll jump in.

          IMO many of your problems could be related to the fact that everything is crammed into a very small space and consequently gets pretty hot.

          I made a boiler blanket from high temperature silicone foam and it seems to reduce the heat loss greatly. Whether it materially affects reliability I'll know in about 8 years.

          BTW I also rewired / rerouted the boiler fill sensor ground wire: the stock configuration (plain PVC insulated wire right on top of the boiler with no standoff) is just plain bad design. I replaced it with high temperature (ECTFE insulated) wire on a 10mm standoff (enough to get it to the outside of the blanket)."

          Might be worth reading about some of the other things to check before replacing the control box such as -
