After 10 years of service, my mothers Sunbeam 6910 gave up the ghost this morning - right after I'd made it to the northern extraction zone.
After 2 solid days of driving through incredible deluges from the south coast to qld I'd had enough of travellers optimism, and wound up with an old all faithful, unfortunately not to be in service.
So I have made a trip to Coffee Machine Specialist in the 'Gabba, and got my mum an early xmas present.
Quite the upgrade form an em6910, but worthwhile.
It needed to be low maintenance and easily serviceable and I also needed to be able to get parts easily while I am interstate, should I need to make a 'rush' service flight (no telling what the future will bring with the border craziness, have already suffered enough with that BS)
So it's home, on the bench and I got an OK deal, Sorry Chris, I needed it today, I hope you understand my dire needs.
Time will tell if it proves to be a reliable unit. It certainly looks the goods and I've already got the grind dialled in and the instructions for Mother, along with usual demonstration and explanation of maintenance etc.
She's smart enough to know how to clean and maintain so should be a cakewalk.
But what a great looking machine. Ok, not rotary valves like my own bizzarre tastes prefer but I could live with a smaller footprint than my ECM Raff.
If anyone here has a Mitica, I'd be keen to know what your experiences are thus far. For the money it was a no-brainer. (I did not want a dual boiler for my mum). As it was She was at rancilio silvia level and as good as they are, I wanted a little more control over my extraction.
I should also qualify - install had to be a tank and not plumbed, and all manual but simple operation.
Someone's going to tell me I got it wrong, I am sure.
