    Thanks,

I'd better state in a 4 month follow-up that everything is working well, users are familiar with behaviours and the little nuances. Sibling purchased a grinder, and while not to my personal taste, I think it's sensible for those who use it more frequently than I.

The unit is fuss-free and works was you'd expect - without fault and no 'surprises'.

and it produces a fantastic cup, now that everyone is 'dialled in'.

    cheers.

Morning Joe, I'm a real fan of Bezzera machines having owned a Domus Galatea for about 10 years.

Regardless of whats currently flavour of the month I've been very happy with my choice and cant see myself upgrading any time soon, if ever, the machine may even outlive me, I've been accused of being a luddite because I don't follow the sheeple down the constant upgrade path, why would I when my current machine does exactly what I require of it.

As you say, very easy machine to come to terms with, I love the E61 group head, heat up time is not excessive, gives excellent results and is dead easy to maintain.

Yep steam power is more than adequate and hot water is fine for heating or rinsing cups.

As a matter of interest its combined with a Mazzer Mini that I've fitted with a Mini E funnel so its now doserless, in my mind a big advantage.

Always nice to hear from another satisfied Bezzera user.?

Just an update for the curious.

Have had the machine in daily use for a month now, and all who use it are achieving consistent results and very satisfied with their coffees. Not bad when they are all coming off the back of an automatic machine.

My own observations are that the Mitica has proven to be an excellent machine so far, with very little to complain about.

But I do have to present the nit-picking observations also, for those who are truly obsessed and cannot live with anything less than perfect in their world.

It took all of 2 days to get the feel for the extraction with the grind being somewhat fussy initially, although I have to say more related to the grinder than the operator. So a macap or mazzer on the horizon in not too distant future to compliment the machine.

For those who were wondering, A couple of notes I had made over the last month of initial use while away -

    1. Despite the perceived negativity of being an HX machine, it heats up quickly and it is well controlled. It's quiet for a vibrating pump.

    2. Steam is powerful. In fact, I would argue it's a little too powerful, given the lever valves relative lack of sensitivity. Having said that, you would not have any trouble with it unless you have one of those ridiculously small frothing jugs meant for dinky-toy machines. Hot water is also a little aggressive, but again I put that down to the lever's lack of sensitivity.

    3. This specific installation required a tank and vibrating pump setup - and while I am not opposed to it by any stretch, I do wish the machine was able to be plumbed in and the rotary pump version of the machine would have been perfect for MY requirements. However, It's not my kitchen and installation restrictions being what they are, the tank and vibrating pump version of the machine present zero issues to the function of the machine.

    4. Aesthetics - typically Bezzera, which is to say they are unfussy and cleanly styled, and certainly have eye-candy value. Everyone who visited IMMEDIATELY gravitated to it in the kitchen, so it obviously has a degree of presence... (not that this was a purchase criteria, but it is interesting to notice how others observe).

    5. Cleaning the machine is a breeze and will present no issues for elderly persons, so it's absolutely a "pensioner-proof" purchase - if you intend to gift one.

    6. very impressed with the machine as a whole, and would happily use one on my bench.

    7. Yes, it does make an excellent cup, as you would expect. There is some forgiveness also, My first hour dialing in the grind was a little frustrating, but it was a grinder issue and not a user problem. Once I had it sorted, there was a consistent replicable result and that is what I was aiming for. The particular ginder currently in use is sensitive to changes in the bean and does not have the fine adjustment of a macap or mazzer, so that will be a mothers day pressie I guess.

Highly recommend the machine. It's fuss-free and produces an excellent cup. All the issues I described above are indeed just that - observations of the machines behaviour.

which is to say, I doubt anything I have described as an issue is not beyond the realm of adjustment or tweaking to your own personal taste, if you so wish.

I simply deem the points raised to be nuances of the machine and any normal person can easily adapt to the behaviours.

started a topic Bezzera Mitica S

    Bezzera Mitica S

After 10 years of service, my mothers Sunbeam 6910 gave up the ghost this morning - right after I'd made it to the northern extraction zone.

After 2 solid days of driving through incredible deluges from the south coast to qld I'd had enough of travellers optimism, and wound up with an old all faithful, unfortunately not to be in service.

So I have made a trip to Coffee Machine Specialist in the 'Gabba, and got my mum an early xmas present.

Quite the upgrade form an em6910, but worthwhile.

It needed to be low maintenance and easily serviceable and I also needed to be able to get parts easily while I am interstate, should I need to make a 'rush' service flight (no telling what the future will bring with the border craziness, have already suffered enough with that BS)

So it's home, on the bench and I got an OK deal, Sorry Chris, I needed it today, I hope you understand my dire needs.

Time will tell if it proves to be a reliable unit. It certainly looks the goods and I've already got the grind dialled in and the instructions for Mother, along with usual demonstration and explanation of maintenance etc.

She's smart enough to know how to clean and maintain so should be a cakewalk.

But what a great looking machine. Ok, not rotary valves like my own bizzarre tastes prefer but I could live with a smaller footprint than my ECM Raff.

If anyone here has a Mitica, I'd be keen to know what your experiences are thus far. For the money it was a no-brainer. (I did not want a dual boiler for my mum). As it was She was at rancilio silvia level and as good as they are, I wanted a little more control over my extraction.

I should also qualify - install had to be a tank and not plumbed, and all manual but simple operation.

Someone's going to tell me I got it wrong, I am sure.
Working...
