What did u end up doing? and,

Nice! I'm glad it was of help to you
it's a simonelli Oscar so it makes coffee as well as one of those. I found I had trouble making great coffee until I installed an over pressure valve. Which isn't so hard of a mod to do. I had the valve already but you can get kits like the one from "elektros". I also installed an anti vac valve, otherwise you have to start it with the steam wand open which means you can't put it on a timer.

I think I'd still like a more e61 like soft ramp up of pressure so in going to put a valve in before the heat exchanger so I can pressure profile with it. I also put a thread in the group so I could put jets in which helps with temperature stability.

I never expected this would be possible but I contacted Blanco and they provided both a manual and service manual for this machine. I was astounded they would bother even to reply to my email.

So please find attached both the manuals. I would consider buying a new product from this company on the basis of their supporting a product they no longer make. Also a service manual!

The attached grinder is a 50mm flat burr grinder with step-less adjustment. Replacement blades are interchangeable with the NS Grinta.

The Grinta has a mixed reputation online. Users complain about it's plasticy build quality, it's lack of step-less adjustment, and static issues with finer gfiner.

All except the static issues don't apply to the grinder within this machine. I find it very quiet compared to mazzer, and static and grind retention are just facts of life for a lot of older grinders.

The worm gear grinder adjustment allows for very precise grind adjustment but it's obviously designed with set it and forget it in mind. You need a tool to adjust it.

I will likely wire in a button that allows for direct control of the grinder which at the moment is controlled by a timer circuit adjustable with a flat head screwdriver.

I think best results with the grinder will be to set the timer so it runs for long enough to grind a double shot and a little longer to try and get as much retention out. To weigh the grounds in to the grinder. Then to spray the beans lightly with water. Grind. then whack the funnel a few times. Wdt, tamp etc. This way you would minimise grind retention and static as much as possible.

I think single dosing you might run into issues with the dimensions of the hopper. I'll experiment with it, perhaps a long spoon would get the beans right into the guts of the grinder. Attached are photos of the grind chamber, where you can see the path and the burrs. Click image for larger version

Ok I have more info. Internally I think it is identical to an oscar here are some photos of the coffee machine. Next post I will give details about the grinder.
It has an insulated 2l boiler It uses a heat exchanger and thermosyphon
    It has a pressurestat
It has a safety steam pressure valve (mine had been tampered with, don't ask)
It has a water level sensor
    It uses an ulka pump.
IT has a 3way solenoid to relieve brew head pressure.
IT has no Anti vaccum valve
It does not have an over pressure valve that returns excess pressure to reservoir.

started a topic Blanco BCM6X- rebadged Nuova Simonelli

    Blanco BCM6X- rebadged Nuova Simonelli

I wanted to post about the Blanco BCM6X, A built in semi-auto heat exchanger espresso machine rrp$2300/
. Before I purchased it I could find very scant information about it on the internet so I want to gather some information together here to help others.

Essentially all the components of the machine are Nuova Simonelli, and I suspect that it very closely matches an Oscar.
    • It uses an ulka vibe pump.
    • It has the same boiler as the Oscar.
    • It has the same water tank as an oscar.
    • It has two buttons: on and brew.
    • It even has a Simonelli logo on the portafilter.
    • It has a built-in conical burr grinder (I will post more about burr size when I take it apart some day), the grinder has step-less adjustment through a worm gear actuated by an Allen key, the grinder has a built in timer adjusted by a very small dial.
I will post more information as I gather it.
