  • New machine/grinder..

    Heya all..

So I'm a Sunbeam EM7000/Breville SG Pro user and looking to jump to the next level up. I have spent a long time getting my grinds, shot time, and so on perfect, and starting to attempt latte art. But the milk texture from the EM is average next to my mates NS Oscar, and so wondering where to go next to get closer to the coffee shops. Ideally I'm looking for a semi auto modern looking machine, and not so much the old school italian stainless steel machines. Partly because my wife makes her own coffees and she doesn't want anything too complex. Something that heats up quickly is a bonus but not a deal breaker, but I would like to be able to pour a shot and texture milk at the same time. Will a breville BES920 and decent grinder get me a better result? Perhaps an NS Oscar or Musica? What other good semi auto machines should I look at?

Budget is under $2500 for a machine and grinder..

For 2.5k i would start looking at prosumer machines. I have a few friends who own the BES920 and hear that it is expensive to repair and dont last as long.

With prosumer machines you get fewer features but they will last forever!

I have a Quickmill Rubino (spent 2k on it) for about 2 years now; solid as a rock; a heat exchanger lets you do both froth and pour shots. You can get some decent grinders for c. 650 to 750.

For what it’s worth I got my bes920 2nd hand and it’s run with no problems whatsoever for 5 years. I’ve also picked up a broken one from here and fixed it up for $100 of parts and a few evenings work and that’s been going strong for almost a year now too.
