Coffee scales came in yesterday afternoon, so I weighed the grind from the Smart Grinder Pro at 21.5g. Using a 1:2 ratio I got 42g out in 30 seconds. When I did not have the scales I had been pouring shots for 25s and they were coming out ok. Now that I know that I need that extra 5s to get a 1:2 ratio I found that at least this morning the cup was tastier

The single spout portafilter not being a problem for me, all I need is a bigger basket so that I'm not overloading.

I prefer the single spout, I'm not a shot splitter.

My Bezzera is about 10 years old, it's a good design and hasn't changed much over the years.

It's great to hear from someone with the same machine. To be honest I'm not sure if the portafilters I have are stock, but they are single spout. Makes it hard to weigh doses. My machine was manufactured in 2009, so it might be that there are many variants of the same machine?

I will have a read of the thread that you linked. Thank you.

Let's say I got a 20g basket. It wouldn't be an issue if I wanted to do an 18g shot?

Ok that's good to know. Thanks.

I recently picked up this machine and I am loving it, however I would like to upgrade the portafilter since the stock basket is only 14g for double shots. It’s an E-61 group so I suppose any that are compatible with other E-61 will work? I’m still waiting on a set of scales to come in the post as well.

I’ve been looking at Pullman baskets and was thinking the 17-18g basket, is there any reason I should grab bigger baskets apart from wanting more coffee?

For the portafilter, can someone recommend one that will work and supports Pullman baskets?

    Cheers
I still use the original porta filters supplied with the machine, they are as good as any other quality E61 porta filter.

The Domus Galatea likes a gap of approx 8mm from top/rim of basket to the the surface of the puck, this prevents the shower screen making contact with the tamped puck, thus avoiding a big mess.

I have a Bezzera DG, and after early experiments with a number of different baskets settled on the Espresso Parts 14 to 18 gram basket, very easy to use and quite forgiving of less than perfect puck preparation.

    Approx $20

An ongoing discussion re dosing the Domus Galatea, you may gain something from it.?

If it’s really just a bigger and better basket that you want then that’s all you need. The portafilter you already have should work fine with the new basket. Having a 18g Pullman or similar basket will give you a couple of benefits. Firstly you will have the option of using a larger dose without over filling the basket. Secondly you should be able to get a bit more space between the shower screen and the puck which is generally preferable.

Pullman use industry standard 58mm baskets manufactured to their own spec. and will fit all standard commercial Group Handles. Contact any of our Site Sponsors for possible PF contenders...
