  • So today I replaced the shower screen

    I had a feeling that the previous owner of my Bezzera DG had never cleaned the shower screen. Well today I finally got my maintenance pack from CP and have replaced it with the help of a pick. I was not prepared for the state of the old shower screen (picture attached).

    I then backflushed the machine with some cleaner which had clearly not been done for a LONG time and the amount of brown coloured “water” that came out was concerning.

    The machine is now purring like a kitten

    I would also harbour some concerns about the boiler and the mushroom based on the shower screen.
    Might be worth a look at the mushroom at least.

    Agree with checking mushroom and if you want to continue some good basic servicing grab some rubber seals for your E61 group. It could probably do with clean/descale and new rubber valves.

    Mushroom valve is a good indicator of overall scale in the machine.

    Here is an excellent video from Rick Bond Aussie coffee tech wizard on servicing an E61 group;

      I actually bought replacement seals for the mushroom in my order, as it was always my plan to clean it too.

      This video is great! I watched it a couple of weeks ago. I will probably watch it again as a refresher.

      I’m pretty happy with the output. It’s certainly a big upgrade from the Barista Express!

    It's a great video from Rick that is posted above. I used it as a guide for my service last year - https://coffeesnobs.com.au/forum/equ...ad-maintenance.
    And another plug for this excellent kit from CoffeeParts - https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/e61-g...ed-rebuild-kit

        If that is before you have cleaned descaled then happy days, fair chance the machine is fairly clean internally. I have seen much, much worse on E61 groups, think scale like barnacles and white coral.

        What you can do if you have the bottom part of the group still assembled is to fill with water and descaler and leave if for a few hours. Also from memory based off the Rick Bond video I put one of the brass abrasive brushes on a drill and clean the inside of the group where the mushroom goes if there is stubborn scale.

        But if there is not much scale you could just pull the other bits apart, drop the valve parts in descaler overnight and fit new rubber valve seals.

        Yep that is the before shot. Haha

        I filled the top of the group with vinegar for a while and gave it a bit of a brush. It looked good in there.
    Working...
