Thanks so much for the responses - I'm just discovering how deep this rabbit hole is. I think I'm now willing the poor old girl to keep going despite her leaks!

Have heard of a few cases of poor alignment on Qamar grinders. If you can prove it has good alignment by buying it second hand (or new) and dem'oing it at the place of purchasing before handing over money, it'll be fine.

Concur with the advise by LN3 the correct filtration should be included in your kit.Originally posted by bormongeo View Postit leaks all over the place and is a temple to limescale.
I could read every thread but I guess I want some feedback on whether this is a decent setup.
And note proper doesn't in anyway refer to 'commercial/ cafe std filtration' as I believe home setups require better
filtration as the machine is working harder(on / off short cycles) and expected to have a far longer life than your avge cafe setup.
Take advantage of the Bombora free test offer.
Id be very happy with another Bezzera machine in my life. The last was a cracker, tho I have Rocket now and rate both very highly.
Urge you to keep an open mind to the grinder tho. I personally would seek out another to match either machine.
A few years back (2016 or thereabouts) assisted a new CS'er who had just purchased a Rocket/Q50s combo from a CS sponsor in Brisbane, (note not this retailer).
To cut a long story short the guy could not get control over the shot flow rate. Gushers.
I took along my grinder (SJolly) beans and basket, as I have a similar model Rocket.
As we swapped in and out 6 variances of combo's, one change at a time. The only setup that didn't work was with the Q50 back into the process.
The Q50 could not grind to fine enough Or to the consistency required to get control over the shot.
Tho the seller did honour the purchase by taking it back and upgrading to a Mazzer Mini for the required $.
I can only assume the seller rep was overdosing the basket to up the flow resistance at the shop demo.
As the CS'er abided by the proper process of puck setup in the basket being short of showerscreen at all times.
Whilst It wasn't my thread (obv) however you should still be able to search on it to verify my words.
GL with your choice and new adventure !

If your BES920 has scale issues, don't expect a new machine to be any different unless you get a proper water filtration system as well.

Upgrade time! BES920 -> Bezzera Mitica?
Hey Snobs! I've been agonising over an upgrade to our BES920 and Smart Grinder Pro for a few weeks. The BES is on the way out - it leaks all over the place and is a temple to limescale. It's got some firmware quirks that have never seemed to have been able to be ironed out and I"m not keen to spend more $$ on it to get it repaired for a second time.
After visiting TCMS @ Wooloongabba, I've semi-concluded that a Bezzera Mitica Top PID and a Qamar Q50S grinder is a decent option.
I've always been keen on a Rocket - gave the Mozzifiato Cronometro V a serious look - but I think the deal on the Bezzera may be better in the long run. Open to options though!
I could read every thread but I guess I want some feedback on whether this is a decent setup.
Make a mix of milk coffees and espresso. No desire to plumb in. Will use a smart plug to address the heat time in the mornings.
