Thanks for all the tips and feedback fellow Snobs.

I settled on a machine and grinder. I truly blew the budget and then some.... Astoria Greta Single Group!
The Greta has 4L Water tank, deep drip tray and can also be plumbed in. There is also LED lighting and backlit buttons. It has a vibratory pump, but it has to be the quietest one in existence and one of the selling points. It really is quiet.
Whilst this machine is volumetric I am yet to program or use the dosing functions.
I went with a Mazzer Mini Electronic grinder.

Im slowly getting it dialed in and seasoned. I have some nice coffee from a friend to try once its seasoned a bit more.

    Ethiopian Limu
    Papua New guinea
    Peruvian Organic.

The Astoria portafilters and handles are real nice, but I will order a bottomless one from Pesado.

    Stay Caffeinated.
    Wayne.

I normally have a habit of not reading all the post and just suggesting what i think. Im glad i read this as its exactly what came to mind when the OP said 3k. Antony at Casa espresso can help you out. My brother got a a similar combo from him a while back. Instead of the X54 (which wasn't out) went for the Specialita. Happy as Larry with it

hopper is fine. looks like there are plenty of single dose mods / hacks for hopper grinders if I ever wanted to explore that.

I currently have a Wega Vela Vintage lever 2 group.
I took it into my work to share with my colleagues. We havent been in the office since Feb 2020.
The machine is to replace the Vela since I am working from home all the time now.
I previously owned a La San Marco 95 Practical A and an ECM Giotto both with Mazzer Minis.
I haven't looked at home espresso machines in years.

I should also say the Giotto was a fingerprint magnet and took some effort to keep shiny which is why I said function over form.

Do you have a machine & grinder at the moment? Where are you on the scale of "don't have to think about it" to "want the best coffee possible and willing to do whatever it takes" are you? Do you mind if there's a small wait between pulling a shot and steaming or vice versa?

    Good questions Barry.
I'm Sydney based and mostly drink Espresso and Lattes.
Yeah, no need for a bundle but figured it might help maximise the budget sourcing from the same supplier.

Well, it would depend on a lot of things. Where are you based? What types of coffee do you drink and how many per day (and how many in close succession)? Surely you don't really require a bundled purchase.....you're just after a machine and a grinder from whatever sources?

New home Coffee machine and bundle grinder debate

    As the title suggests....
I'm in the market for a New home Coffee machine and grinder bundle.
Budget is 2.5k to 3k. It must be a tank machine.
My preference is for a commercial group or derivative and function over form. Grind on demand grinder. On the fence about single dosing.

What would you buy and why?
Working...
