I went through the same dilemma as you (plus profitec 300 in the mix) and ended up with the Elizabeth and I am happy with my decision after 1.5 months of solid use. I have also paired it with Eureka Mignon Specialita.

main reasons for Elizabeth over Mara X
    - accurate temp control means one less variable for newbie like me to worry about and mess up
    - programmable shot buttons. Even with this I often forget something from my routine (eg. Taring the scale before pulling a shot). I can't imagine how frequently I'll stuff up shots using E61 grouphead. Once again this is another variable I don't have to worry about
    - programmable pre infusion
    - shorter warm up time. I like to have coffee on demand so WiFi plug alone does not solve this problem

All in all, for someone still learning Elizabeth is definitely going to be easier to produce consistent shots.
The only thing Mara X had over the Elizabeth for me was the looks and slightly cheaper purchase cost.

I just upgraded from a Victoria to the Mara last week. I realise the Victoria isn't a direct comparison to the Elizabeth, but this is what I've found. The Mara has surpassed my expectations. The slow heat-up was my biggest concern, but I've found it faster than the 25 mins they said it's usually ready in 15 mins (i have it on the lowest temperature setting). The build quality of the machine seems much better than the Victoria and the pump noise is much much quieter. I love the slow pressure build-up of the shot. I use a bottomless portafilter and if I wasn't careful with the puck prep with the victoria, I'd get little sprays everywhere. The slow pressure profile is incredibly forgiving and creates beautiful shots nearly every time. I also love the E61 style. The chrome is super shiny and cleans up much easier than the matt finish on the Victoria. I hope this helps.

Used to own Elizabeth's older sister - Diana. The main advantages of Elizabeth over Mara or other HXs are much faster heat up (10mins vs 30mins, you can use a timer with Mara though it's not always viable in some scenarios.), programmable preinfusion, and PID (with which you can adjust the brew temperature, unlikely to see much difference though as you make milk drinks). Expect higher TCO with the the Elizabeth though due to the complexity of DB. Both machines should handle 2-4 drinks or more easily.

I've been considering these two (and a whole lot of others) and between them I am leaning towards the Elizabeth.

You can steam and pour shots at the same time on both. Mara probably has more horsepower but wouldn't matter if you are only making 1 or 2 coffees at a time.

    Elizabeth has:

    Has more precise temperature control.

    Programmable pre-infusion.

Programmable shot timers and shot clock.

Two reason I would go Mara over Elizabeth is aesthetics (classic e61 look) and ability to add flow control.

My advice is do the grinder first. It will unlock a whole new level and require getting used to on its own. Better to do that now with a machine you are super familiar with, as it will give you a clearer picture of the coffee. Better to have a half step to clearer coffee now and half a step later than a 2% step now and 98% step later.

Hi Montat and welcome to CS.

They're both great machines and it sounds like you've worked out their main differences. The auto shot cut-off on the Elizabeth does simplify the process a little. Both make great coffee. The Elizabeth heats up a little faster if that's a factor. Otherwise it might come down to aesthetics - whether you want an E61 group machine like the Mara or not?

    Lelit Mara vs Elizabeth

    Hi,

I’m a fairly rookie espresso enthusiast looking at upgrading my home set up and after some advice. Currently have the sunbeam EM 7000 and Breville smart grinder pro. I primarily make milk based drinks, 2-4 a day on average but occasionally would make more when having visitors.

I’ve done a bit of research and I think narrowed it down to either the Lelit Mara X or Lelit Elizabeth.

My wife would make the occasional drink also and she prefers a somewhat simpler process, which is making me lean towards the Elizabeth as I could program something for her on one of the preset buttons.

Planning to upgrade the breville to eureka Mignon specialita eventually also.

I’ve been tossing up the 2 for ages and can’t seem to make up my mind to pull the trigger. Wondering if anyone thinks there’s much difference between the two for my use - or perhaps if there’s another machine I might not have considered?

    Cheers
