Hello coffee enthusiasts,
I'm in Sydney and I’m super keen on getting a home espresso set up - since I’m just working from home - and I love coffee - and I always wanted one!
I've never owned an espresso machine, been making coffees with my bialetti moka pot for ages - I've done a barista training and pulling shots on the 3-group semi-auto at work every day.
I only drink black coffee, long blacks and espresso’s - I just love the pure taste of coffee flavours and been trying coffee from all regions of the world I could get my hands on - light roasts, dark roasts, high quality robusta - I really like variety. I’d be into playing around with coffees, I’d even make espressos from filter coffee just for fun!
I drink about 3 coffees a day and usually like to mix it up with blends and single-o's. My partner would have 1 latte a day, no I entertaining atm.
I'd spend up to $3000 for machine and grinder (plus a bit, might get my partner to chip in too!), new would be nice but I wouldn't mind ex-demo or used but in great condition.
I'd like my equipment to have:
I know the basics about machines/grinders and eyed off several models, like ecm classika PID, profitec pro 300, bellezza chiara, lelit victoria, lelit mara x, bfc/diadema junior lever plus, bezzera bz10, precision bella, ..the list goes on, there's just so much choice out there! For grinders I like the Eureka Mignon series.
I'm a bit confused about the necessity of a PID - with single or double boilers it makes sense, but with HX, if I go down that route, it seems a bit pointless, am I wrong?
Unfortunately I've only seen a handful of machines up close, but never went to a full showroom and really got a feel for them. Now with lockdown that's of course not possible, and I'm not sure whether I should actually buy a machine when I can't see it in person.
I'd be grateful for any tips to narrow down my choice - thanks everyone!

p.s. apologies for yet another "what stuff should I buy" post
