  • Expobar advice needed.

    Hi everyone,
    I am thinking if adding a flow controller to my Minore IV. To do this I need to remove the lower chamber (pre-infusion and exhaust chamber) and replace the spring.

    My question;
    Does the overflow spout get in the way of unscrewing the lower chamber?

    There doesn't seem much distance between the lower chamber and overflow spout. Has anyone unscrewed this chamber and did you have any issues?

    I have serviced a couple of Minore III/IV E61 groups, but I can recall what I did with the spout, maybe best to remove the overflow spout first. Should be easy enough with a short adjustable spanner.

      Thanks roosterben. Since mine is a tanked version, I believe that this spout isn't even connected to anything since the OPV actually vents back into the tank not the drip tray. I believe they just left the spout in the bodywork since plumber and tanked have the same body. I have two tubes in the water tank.

      Is that your experience working with a Minore?

      And would you access behind the panel when undoing the spout or should I just undo it from the front?

        I can't recall the details as it has ben a couple of years since I worked on one. But one I bought was dead and required a new PID and a few other items like anti-vac valves and fixing leaks.

        I would try to undo the nut with the case on first. Inside will be a threaded nut which should be stable enough for you to remove/replace the spout.

        When you are working on the E61 group bolts it is a good to cover the ends of your spanner/adjustable wrench. You can use electrical tape to cover the tips just wrap the tips with a few layers. This will avoid scratching/scoring the chrome bolts.

          To remove the lower chamber, you need to remove the overflow spout. You unscrew it from the front. It's not required for a tanked reservoir.

          I was going to look for a closed nut to replace it, but I think the thread on the spout is not a metric thread. Gave up once Iockdown hit, so haven't worried about it since. I'll resume my search once Bunnings opens again.

            Thanks dimmy and roosterben! Both comments really helpful! Thanks for the photo and confirmation it is redundant. When I take it off to add a flow controller I'll do the same and place a chrome blank nut over the threads.

              If you find the end cap nut, could you post the part details?
