ECM Mechanika V Slim Running Hot

Went to the dealer today and they loaned me their scace to check the temps myself.
Sensor start temp 96.5
sensor Scase
98.4 90.3
98.4 94.1
97.6 96.2
96.0 95.5
93.6 93.5
91.1 91.3
The scase was well warmed up and drew 350ml of water and started the reading after about 5 seconds. The sensor looks quite accurate Noting wrong with the machine or sensor. the dealer thinks the same as Dimal, possible a blockage that's cleared itself. Basically it's working normally, keep your eye on it and bring it back if it presents any problems. Plus points to Ronin for accurately assessing the machine's behavior was normal. So, panic over. many thanks to all involved
The first row is the sensor, second row scase, it won't let me leave a gap.Last edited by Erimus; 5 October 2021, 07:22 PM.

Thanks to all. I'll contact the dealer and let you know what happens. It seems stable now so maybe there was a slight blockage that has cleared itself.

@Erimus
Rightio then...
It looks like the temperature being reported by the dial thermometer is correct.
That being the case, there is either an issue with the PressureStat or the line feeding the p/stat is being temporarily blocked by scale or some other detritus of unknown origin.
If the machine is brand new, I would suggest getting it back to the Vendor from whom you bought it and direct them to read this thread as a primer for troubleshooting and rectifying the problem, whatever it turns out to be...
All the best,
Mal.

I should have prefaced my message with the statement that I don't have an ECM or even HX machine, so others are more qualified to comment.

Honestly if you want true thermal stability get a saturated group machine

I won't guess at what might be wrong, but that doesn't sound like normal behaviour to me.

It's very steady at present and the machine's been on 3 hours: 1140hrs 95.7C
1205 95.4
1217 95.3
1230 94.9 made tea from water wand
1320 95.8
1325 Flushed a 100ml out, started rising to 99.7 within a minute, then 105 after a couple of minutes, 107 after 5 mins, 10 mins and showing 113.1.
1340 Flushed another 100ml out temp immediately dropped from 113.2
to 101.5 with lots of steam and hissing before flowing.
1350 98.8
1400 97.6
1405 96.8
1415 97.2
1425 97.8 short flush, no steam, pulled shot, it was slightly bitter, but drinkable. Probably should have waited a bit longer. This was with the 1 cup basket and I've been getting excellent shots from the 2 cup basket, just
good shots from the 1 cup. The temp shown is supposedly 3 degrees above what enter the puck, so the temp should be somewhere around the 93 to 94 brewing temp
1440 97.3
1445 97.1

Does the coffee taste burnt or overly bitter when it reads 100c? if not I'd say what the thermometer indicates might be inaccurate.

As "saeco-user" mentioned above, when the thermometer is reporting a group temperature of ~100C, does the water from the group immediately "flash" to steam? If it does not do this, then I would ignore what the thermometer indicates and request a replacement from the supplier.

I don't know actually. When it was a 100ish I was too focused on bringing the temp down, so yes, I should have tasted it. New machine syndrome and wanting to do everything correctly.Originally posted by saeco_user View PostIs it possible you have an after market temperature gauge issue and not brew temperature issue? ie when the temperature gauge reading "was 100ish" and you performed a flush, was a significant amount of steam released? When you make a coffee with the temperature gauge reading 100, does it taste significantly different to one when the gauge is reading in the right range?

The only reason I suggest this is because the ECM Mechanika is generally regarded as such a reliable and stable machine.

I would like to upgrade the grinder at some point and yes the incremental steps can be a pain, but there's ways around that. We'll see how this grinder performs with the Slim over a longer period, at the moment the coffee is fantastic and far superior to what I was achieving with the BES 920.
I'm still experimenting so taking all info on board. Main thing is the coffee's good. Thanks.
