    Yep- all normal

Hi Phil. What you’re describing sounds like the regular on-off cycle of the pressure-stat. I’m sure one of the sponsors will respond and confirm if it’s operating within a normal tolerance.

Sorry, by "normal operation" I mean sitting idle. Can't edit my post for some reason, although I could after it was first created. Odd.

Giotto Premium: slowly loses boiler pressure?

    Hello,

I inherited an ECM Giotto Premium from my FiL. Not exactly sure on the year of manufacture. I know it's at least 10 years old. The Giotto was replaced after years of service when the end of the hot water valve sheared clean off!

I've since replaced both wand valves, rebuilt the group header and replaced some other basic maintenance items - water filter, water tank o-ring etc. Also installed a brew header pressure gauge to satisfy my own curiosity (~9 bar, which is great).

The Giotto is otherwise working well. Saying that, during normal operation I've noticed the boiler pressure will climb to ~1.0bar and, over the course of about 80 seconds, drop to 0.8, before I hear a click and the pressure climbs back to 1.0 (in about ~15 seconds). This frequency of pressure loss and restore seems a little on the high side.

Am I correct in thinking the boiler pressure should be holding steady at ~1 bar for longer?

Reading around I suspect the vacuum breaker valve (C219903151) might be the culprit. I can sometimes hear a small hissing from the top of the machine when it's on, although not always. Given the state of some of the seals I replaced, it wouldn't surprise me if the vacuum breaker is on the way out.

If I do go ahead and replace the vacuum valve, do I need to use sealant on the threads?

    Thank you.
