  • Small dual boiler with PID - which one?

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a small dual boiler with PID for
    • mainly black coffee
    • occasional lattes for the misses
    • occasionally having friends over
I'm between: Profitec Pro 300 vs Lelit Elizabeth vs ACS Minima vs Bellezza Bellona

    Which one would you suggest?
    Any others I should consider?

I'm planning to buy 2nd hand or ex-demo, but might have to buy new if there's nothing I can find used.

Cheers and thanks for your advice!

From what you have stated an HX machine will be more than sufficient for your needs. Check out Jetblack who have a range of demo and preloved machines for sale at present.

      Thanks Birkin7

Yes, it's true I could probably get a HX with PID, they seem to hold temperature well too and you can lower/increase depending on beans. Do you still have to do cooling flushes with those too?
I can see jetBlack has a handful of machines, even an Elizabeth.

When correctly setup Hx machines do not need a cooling flush. I believe machines sold by Australian distributors are supplied to customers without the need of a cooling flush, and have been for quite a few years now.

How is a hx correctly setup?

A little a while ago I was doing research on the same machines and found the following (extremely short):

Profitec Pro 300 - top performer: simplicity, reliability, temperature stability (saturated group head as in much more expensive models), most satisfied customers, ready to brew in 5 minutes, okay’ish steam

Lelit Elizabeth - great value for money, pre-infusion, good steam, messy wiring inside

ACS Minima - great design idea, great steam, suffered from a lot of problems and reliability (plenty in UK forums), noisy pump

Yes. There's something else coming soon from a respected player but for now, all lips are zipped.

Thanks for the input, that really heps!

I can see how the Pro 300 ticks all my boxes functionally. It doesn't have pre-infusion capabilities, but for my first machine that'd be fine I think. What makes me hesitate: I'm just not sure about the design of the machine, it's not the prettiest (in my eyes; I wish it would look like the LMLM) - I'll have to check it out in person again.

Elizabeth - seems really good too

ACS Minima - nevermind then, if it's not reliable. I also just went to jetBlack and I don't like the "unusual" look in person either..

Correctly setup = correctly sized gigler nozzles installed. On Australian supplied HX machines these gigler and Thermostat set to suit Australian style of coffee, approx 94 degrees Combine so no cooling flush is required.
If you search this forum you will find lots of info on this topic.

how far is this new arrival away and in the stores? are we talking weeks or months?

just wondering whether to wait or still buy a machine now 🤷‍♂️

You can wait forever for the “latest and greatest“ - there is always something new is coming… Also, keep in mind that all new models have “teething” problems.

Hmm... I'd call that a pretty broad statement.

To the OP. I regret I don't know as I am not the importer, but would guess that it may be 3-6 months.
