Thanks everyone! That image of the heater earth did the trick! All up and running!

Thanks. So there are two earth's in series and one standalone currently connected to the bottom chassis.
Going by your really useful photo, one of the earths in series goes to the heating element, and the other would go to the case (given the proximity).
But that elusive last earth remains, er, elusive...

Look for a metal tab on the case sides and back(but now I am not sure if these are on the BZ99 or other machines I worked on), there may have even been one on the side of the water tank from memory.

Thanks so much for the photos! That last one answered one of the big questions: did mine come with a contact thermostat and where does one of the earths go? - no and on the heater.

VERY similar, but it's a different machine.

Now I'm just left with one earth. Image attached.
I might see if can track down where it goes from the file Javaphile mentioned.

    Appreciate the help, everyone.

I might be able to help, not sure you may even have bought that machine of me, as I sold a project machine like this a few months ago :-)

I have a bunch of internal photos from a BZ99/S I worked on recently and will see if I can find a few helpful pictures tonight after work.

Hey Mal I've contacted a few people, but it's possible that they flew under my radar (I learned of them through posts here). I'll give them a go.
    thanks!

started a topic Final steps in BZ99s refurb.

    Final steps in BZ99s refurb.

    Hi all.
First time caller, long time listener.

I'm a massive coffee nerd in Brisbane, formally Sydney. My daily driver is a Breville Dual Boiler and DF64 grinder.

    I picked up a non-functioning Bezzera BZ99s - the heating element.
It was quite heavily scaled so I decided to do a full strip refurb.
She's looking good and all back together, with only the bits that were unplugged when I got it.

I'm trying to figure out where these cables go. Any assistance would be helpful. Here's what I think.
    • The pair with the R on it, go to the water tank for water level.
    • The blue and black go each side of the heating element.
    • One on the earth's in series goes to the case, the other earth in series goes to the heating element body.
    • This leaves one earth that was connected to the chassis. Where does this go?

    Here's what I've learnt:
    • this chassis is used for different machines, so mounting points aren't all used (left side).
    • There are two versions of heating element: one with, and without a contact thermostat.

Since I simply don't have enough cables, am I to assume I don't need the contact thermostat?
OR Does the contact thermostat have its own harness? For examample, blue from machine to thermostat, thermostat to heater.

I've found limited information pertaining to this, except one image of the contact thermostat wiring which doesn't fully explain things.

    Any help would be appreciated!
