Hi all,
Not so sure if aware of the new Oscar model coming up from Nuova Simonelli,
Interesting design, presented well and clean.
same 2ltr heat exchanger than the Oscar 2 but with a couple of additions:
-OPV 9bars
-PID control *
-Digital screen
-cool touch steam wand
- steam wand activated electronically.
I have been trying to find more info about this machine as I am interested but there’s no much.
* one thing that I did come across was the PID control. Looks like it doesn’t control the temperature but the pressure in the boiler. Within the menu, you change the pressure in bars unlike other modern HX with PID where you change the temperature instead. Some mentioned pressure is a better measure on a HX as pressure is more prompt to changes.
I dig a bit in the technicals and it does not have a temperature probe/sensor but a pressure transducer.
This question is more for the coffee tech.. and it is not about whether a PID is worth or not on a HX but more about an explanation as to why NS decided to take this approach.. is it a good design? Bad? Makes more sense on a HX than a temperature PID controlled machine like the Profitec Pro 500 Pid or ECMs?
or is it just s way for NS to lower costs and although it offers a way to easily change the boiler pressure it would be less temperature stable?
thanks for your inputs.
