I have the ECM Mechanika Slim 6 (not heritage version). Aside from the external appearance, the main difference to the P400 is the ECM has a 2.2L boiler vs the P400's 1.6L boiler. Otherwise functionally the same machine.

    I'm super happy with it.

I see the temp settings on the profitec 400 is

    120 celsius
    124 c
    128 c

My Breville Dual boiler default is set to 93 degrees celcius.

Isn't 120 celcius on the p400 way too hot and will fry the coffee???

Or should I set my BDB to 120c and give it a go?

Or is it assumed that the grouphead will be around 93 if the p400 is set to 120?

I really have my eye on the p400 or ecm mechanika 6 as both have some limited temp control and a small footprint and look amazing!!!

    How is your p400 running?
IM dreaming about the ECM Mechanika Slim 6 Heritage model which I believe inside is really the same as p400.

I played around with it a bit, but found the middle setting best for most roasts. I enjoy the simplicity of it. In my line of work I deal with PID all the time and just dont need to be reminded when I pull a shot. From what I understand, it has an internal PID but the setpoint is adjusted by the switch. The difference in 2 degrees per change is enough to cover most bases IMHO. I guess they way I think about it, temperature variability is probably more than the PID can generally control and stability comes from the machine design.

After trying many e61 machines, I stoped on P300 just over a year ago and very happy with its performance: heat up time 5 mins for espresso and 10 mins for steaming, incredible temperature stability, robust build. It’s very similar in concept to much more expensive Dalla Corte Studio but at less than half price!
Grinder - yes, it’s a very important piece: again, after experimenting with close to a dozen grinders, my final choice was 75mm burrs grinder - it gave me the best performance for value for money grinder.
    Happy brewing!

schmick23 so far so good! I am only using it on the weekends as I start pretty early at work.

    - Temperature stability seems really good, I have made a few coffees for people on the weekend and it seems to not drift too much.
    - There is a line in the manual that says you should do a 2 second flush so I do. Also just to clean the shower as a benefit as well
    - No burn steam wand is a yes
    - Steam performance is great, but that may be a function of coming from the La Pavoni, a flat white amount of milk is done very quickly and if you get it right is super silky.

E61 is fine! I had an old Gaggia which is where I started so I know what the SBDU is about as well, but it really is a non issue. It is much nicer to grab something tactile.

I could still be torn on the P300 due to the dual boiler PID aspect but I think I wanted a simpler experience as I tend to get wrapped up in the numbers of it too much at times, so it was a forced decision to make me look at things more simply. The P300 also heats up really quickly. No flow control later on if I want to go down that rabbit hole though...

It is the best coffee I have ever made at home and the benefits of fast heat up time and simplicity are what is making it for me right now. Its quiet and well made.

Next minor upgrades will be abottomless portafilter and 20g baskets, currently only get 18g in before its too much.

Next question though, do I upgrade my grinder? Hmmmm

Rawmsy, any further feedback on your new machine. A few more comments popping up online as these machines start being delivered. All positives thus far.

I'm really leaning towards this new 400. Seems we share similar requirements so I'm thinking a HX (was previously looking at the Lelit Elizabeth, P300, etc.) will suit me equally.

Was originally nervous about the e61 group (I have a Lelit SBDU) but after talking to one of the site sponsors today, think I'm coming around. LOL.

    Couple of more specific questions:

    - Have you found the temperature stability to be pretty good?
    - Are cooling flushes required between shots?
    - Does the 400 have a 'Cool/No Burn' Steam Wand?
    - How's the Steam performance?

I might be just a little biased here Rawmsy, but imo you've made good brand choices with your setup. Eureka and Profitec have been on my bench for many years now because they both build solid, quality units. Enjoy.

Did have a laugh today. For some reason the machine stopped working, green light was on but no PID or heating of boilers. Got worried, rung the shop and they explained this is what happens when the water tank is empty. I was used to the beep from my Rocket when water was low, with the Profitec machines they just stop working. Had to laugh.

BTW what tamper stand do you have there for your portafilter (in the front of your photo)?
Haha, I think we have all done something like that!

Its the Eureka Mignon tamp station. My cheap rhino scale fits perfectly into the section underneath the chute which was a happy accident.
