  • Rocket Giotto - struggling to make a coffee

    Hey Coffee Snobs!

I returned to the family home over Christmas and the poor ole Giotto is struggling and needs some love, here's a video...

Would anyone have pointers on where I could start?

I'm an engineer and enjoy getting my hands dirty and happy to do so for the coffee machine.

Sounds like time for a new vibe pump - Ulka EX5 . When they get old, they start to fail under load like this.

Awesome, thank you Kofekitt! I'll order one in and change it.

I'm making an order to a repair shop, would anyone recommend any spare parts I might need when fixing my machine?

I have a group head seal as well

You could always get a ulka prime valve as well as they sometimes break during pump replacement. Also an in-line filter, maybe a new Antivac valve for on top of the boiler . Maybe a E61 group rebuild kit if you're feeling really adventurous

Sounds like the pump, one failure mode is the little plastic ball that seal the end of the supply line wears to the point of being under size. This condition prevents the water pressure to build up against the return spring, preventing flow. Intermittent operation of pump, as heard in the video, could be a sign its on its way.
