  • Steaming in tight corner

Seeking some advice on the practicality of steaming milk on the right hand side of a machine in a tight corner.

My current setup as pictured with the Sunbeam EM 6910 in the corner and grinder to the left of that as the steam is on the left of machine it seems to work okay.

I usual only make two milk based coffees a day and often consider my next machine should the EM6910 expire. The machine that constantly ends up at the top of my list is the Lelit Elizabeth V3 fitting the criteria of a small foot print and a fairly fast warm up time amongst other things. Unfortunately it has the Steam nozzle on the right, so how practical is this to use in my situation, can you comfortable steam in front of the machine or would twisting the machine so it sits on the bench at an angle help.

Answering my own question my thoughts are that I should look for a different machine with steam on the left side.

It's a bit of a misconception that you need to steam milk with the wand out to the side of the machine. The best wand position and technique is usually to pull the wand straight out in front, but it does depend on the specific machine and set up. I'd say that it would be absolutely doable in your situation, but something that you may want to consider is that you'll get a bit of splatter against your wall. Even if it's just steam/water it's probably not ideal as it looks like a painted wall rather than tiles or another wipeable surface.

I'll echo this. You can absolutely steam in front of the machine, just tilt the jug to suit.

You can also minimise the splatter by being careful with the steam tip in and out of the jug. Also while cleaning holding the cloth around it. This won't eliminate the issue but make it manageable and just wipe the wall down each day or week etc.

Thanks for your advice, I tried steaming in front of machine with the sunbeam and its doable and using my imagination can see cleaning the steam wand to be a squeeze.
So right side steaming is doable but the left side steaming for me is a better option.
Pleased to have your input on this and think it will make the final decision easier.
