  • Quick Hack: Keeping the counter clean!

Heres a quick "mod" that I made for the Challenge to keep from spilling grounds all over the counter. Its not pretty, but its very effective and makes use of the second "R" in Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

    1. Take a 2 litre HDPE milk bottle, remove the labels (fill the bottle with very hot water, and peel them off slowly), clean it well, and cut off the top just below the point where the handle begins
    2. In the middle of one side (the "rear"), mark the width of the rectangular black plastic plate that the PF arms are part of; placing the milk bottle bottom on the grinder base, mark the depth of the plate on the bottle.
    3. Draw the rectangle, and cut it out
    4. Remove a 45-degree chunk from the top rear down to the middle front
    5. Slide your new grounds catcher under the PF arms and on to the front of the grinder. Itll stay there all by itself, and can be easily removed for cleaning or when fussy guests come over.

Heres a pic of the device in question in operation:

Now that’s a combination of innovation mixed with recycling

See your other clogging post but a good tap of the spout with the PF after filling will help reduce some of the extra bits dropping out later.

        Good point beanflying.

@KK, Im trying more for the "reuse" instead of "recycle" here The wife uses cut up milk bottles as sleeves for growing seedlings in (tomatoes, capsicum and eggplant mainly), and if youre really keen, a cut up HDPE milk bottle plus a frame, a heat gun and a vacuum cleaner combine into a home-built vacuum-form mold maker ;D

Ive used one to make a bag filling scoop for my roasted beans.

Haha, well done TG. I have been doing the same thing with an old plastic juice bottle. Cant argue with results

Also, 5meoCMP, that catcher under the grinder looks pretty slick. The R&D team has obviously been working overtime
