  • buying a new mazzer super jolly advice

    Hi,

Im wanting to buy a mazzer super jolly, and wondering if I should be going for a timer or auto?

I gather with an auto, I would have to pull out the auto mechanism flap in the doser to get access to the chute, and also wire out the auto fill.

I dont know how the buttons work for each type, but i dont want to really modify it, so is a timer model the way to go? How does the timer model switch work? Is this exactly what I need for home use?

    Thanks, Damian.

Timer model you basically crank the timer on and then crank it off when you want to stop, or let it run out as it ticks down.

So the timer switch doesnt mind being switched off manually the whole time rather than waiting til it turns itself off?

What type do you have yeeza? How do you find it?

nah, you can crank it off for sure. Doesnt hurt it.. I thought the same thing too initially

Ive got the timed one, and its no issues at all. The autofill one seems like a pain. I think there are more timed ones out there generally.

Ok, so timed isnt an issue, but it still sounds a bit weird to use a timer that I will never actually use as a timer. If I get a auto one, and disconnect the auto fill, will the switch then work just as an on/off switch? Is this a better outcome, but more hassle?

ha, yeah I dunno. I guess Im just used to mine now. I use it more as an ON/OFF than a timer.

Maybe someone with the auto fill might wanna make a comment.

My timer is broken. It has a "set" time and you cant change it. So I just have to hold it on while grinding (lest it stop halfway) and then manually pull it off.

Mind you its a very old machine that looks well abused.

From memory (FWIW) if you crank the timer all the way itll run for 60secs. I dont think I ever crank it that far though... more like half way, and then crank off.... maybe let it just run out if I know its nearing the end of the grind.

I think mine is the auto-fill one. I broke the auto-fill but. I kept bending the stupid flap out of the way to brush out the chute and it eventually snapped off. The toggle thingy is 0 - 1 - 2. You put it on 1 if you use the flap of stupidity. So if you wanna do it manually, you just push it to 2 to grind, and back to 0 for off.

If that makes any sense whatsoever

Auto fill is the way to go. Switch it on it grinds, switch it off when you have enough, about three doser sections per double and it stops. If you ever end up helping out at a function (we help out making coffee with the Boema and Super Jolly at daughters school fair) then let the auto fill do its thing. Good machine for home use, with a mix of high volume thrown in a few times a year.

                      Thanks Michelle, Neil.

So if you have the auto version, if the doser is empty I take it there is no difference between 1 and 2 if you are just going to turn if off after a little?

And another question for anyone who has disabled the auto-fill - do you then just switch between 0 and 1 when using, or is 1 disabled, and you have to switch from 0 to 2?

haha, Im guessing its about as much a problem as turning it on a timer and then turning it off when youre done grinding.

So when it comes down to it, it doesnt really make a difference. :-? Either way youre turning it on and then turning it off, unless you have a timer and itll turn off by itself. ;D

My Gino Rossi has the auto-fill flap.
                              The power switch is On/Off.

If the doser is empty and you leave the switch on, it keeps grinding until the auto-fill flap switch turns it off.

If you only want to grind as you go you simply switch on and off as you would with a grinder without the auto-fill.

I dont see the need for 2 On positions.
                              Someone please explain.
