  • Iberital Challenge vs. Nemox Lux

I am considering to get a grinder, the Iberital Challenge and the Nemox Lux are in my price range.
Which one will  a best solution for me? Should  I get A doser  or doserless?
I own a Gaggia Carreza and I also use a Krups drip coffee maker with gold filter.
I roast my own Coffee with I-Roast 2.

    Thanks

Re: Iberital Challenge vs. Nemox Lux

    Welcome moshe515... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

The Lux is a "Stepped" grinder while the Iberital Challenge is not, being infinitely adjustable or "Micro-metrical". If youre only making espresso coffee, then the Iberital is the best choice as it allows you to make very fine adjustments to "dial-in" for the perfect espresso. On the other hand, if you brew coffee using more than one brew method that requires large and rapid adjustment of the grind setting then the Lux is more suitable but tricky to dial-in for espresso as each step change results in pour time changes of 6-7 seconds per step.

    All the best
    Mal.

Not sure what you are referring to Moshe... Do you mean the Grind Size adjustment via the stepped collar?

Its very simple mate..... The grinder has a collar that is fixed to the adjustable grinding burr, called a burr carrier. This in turn is threaded into the grinder housing so that as you rotate the collar towards the lower burr mounted on the motor/gearbox shaft, the grind becomes finer.... Rotate the collar the other way and the grind becomes coarser. The Lux has a small button that you depress to unlock the collar so that you can rotate it from one or more steps at a time and then locks in to the closest detent under the collar.

The Iberital does away with this process and instead, uses a worm/crown gear drive with the crown gear fixed to the upper burr carrier and the worm gear, in turn, is meshed into this with a shaft and adjustment knob extending to one side. When you turn the knob, the motion is transferred to the upper burr carrier and because of the design of the crown/worm gear drive, there is no need for any kind of locking system to prevent the burr carrier from unwinding while grinding your coffee.

I hope this helps a bit mate but the best advice I can give you, is to drop into one of our Site Sponsors premises and ask to have the various grinders within your budget demonstrated for you. All the best,

            Mal.
