  • San Marco Grinder

    Hi all,

Any opinions on San Marco Commerical Grinders? I think that I might be able to pick one up for sub $200 and looking for advice.

Not sure of quality, age or model yet but this is coming.

    any comments would be great.

    Re: San Marco Grinder

    Love my LSM Mike....

Built tough enough to withstand a nuclear blast, yet with very high standards of quality applied to all the important criteria. My LSM is an SM-90A with 64mm burr-plates and a 4-Pole motor (1,360 RPM) and nearly identical to this current model... http://tinyurl.com/2gqqlp. The Doser is a work of art constructed from a combination of Cast Alloy and Fibre Reinforced Plastic of some kind. This baby does not leave a single grain of ground coffee behind; it sweeps the sides and bottom of the Doser Base perfectly clean each and every time..... No mods necessary.

Without knowing the model of the unit youre considering its a bit difficult to know for sure but with my particular grinder, because of the one piece cast alloy casing, it is quite noisy by some standards and this may be a deterrent if there is a risk of waking family members at un-Godly early hours. Aside from this though, it is a great, high quality grinder and highly recommended [smiley=thumbsup.gif].

    Cheers,
    Mal.

            Re: San Marco Grinder

the old lsm will probably outlive the lot off us

new set of cutters every so often
(worn cutters kill even the expensive grinders)

most people wont buy them because their looks
but looks commercial cause it is

aim too help, not to offend

if people get offended because it is told the way it is, then that is their problem

dont have time for the bullshit

                  Nahhh....

Dont get offended that easy and besides, I dont mind the somewhat rugged, industrial look of my LSM. Anyway, you could always strip her down and have the outer case powder-coated in some exotic shade or another, maybe something to go with your decor? Plan on stripping mine down at some stage in the near future when I have another grinder to use. Cant be without my coffee .

She is a very imposing presence nonetheless and that might disturb some people looking for a used commercial for home use. As Graham says above though, under the bonnet theyre all quality in the right places. They are a "stepped" grinder but each step only represent about a 2 degree circumferential change on a thread pitch of approx. 1.5mm and I love the rapid change convenience 8-)

                  Cheers,
                  Mal.

Id be tempted to strip down the LSM and repaint it the combo of the above colours! White all over with red stripes in those grooves... or vice-versa - oh! Itd be deadly!!! Itd look like a Vespa, but killer. Grind in style I say.... oh and ive seen worse looking grinders.

                      NO, NO, NO.
If youre going to repaint it must be Green, White, and Red. Sheesh!
