there are so many conical/blur grinders in the market what makes one better than other, is there a comparison done on them ?

You get what you pay for, cheaper grinders are built from cheap components and not built to last the test of time.
If you purchase a quality piece of equipment it will outlast cheaper appliances and produce a superior grind quality over the life of the machine.
Most CSers will tell you to purchase the best grinder that you can afford as a good consistent grind is crucial for good espresso.

Have a look at the first few posts in the grinder section for some comparisons.

The top-end grinders are commercial machines made for use in coffee shops, grinding many hours a day, day-in and day-out for years and ears. You will never wear out one of those grinders in home use. worst case is that you may need to replace the burrs every few years...   or never. The problems with those is that they tend to be large and will not fit under overhead cabinets without modification (removal of the hopper and replacement with a home-built smaller substitute).

Additionally, you get better burrs that are more precise and stay sharp longer, better bearings that hold the motor shaft in alignment, heavier burr carrier, more precise grind adjustments that stay put once set, etc.

Put all that together and you see why the used Mazzer Super Jolly is so popular. Pick one up used, clean it up, and add a new set of burrs, and you have a quality grinder that will probably outlive you.

Theres a tell-tale sign in the Mazzer Mini owners manual where it says the blades may need to be replaced every 300 Kg!!!

Hmmm, even at a kilo a week thats six years!
I wish I had other stuff that was that economical at high-level use.

hmmm, I go though about a kilo every 3 weeks or so, so that is 17+ years.

so if the mini mazzer costs $750 that would make it less than 85c a week to run plus power.

my em480 lasted 29months before a piece of glass destroyed the upper planetary plastic gear housing although before that happened the grind adjustment needed to be set finer and finer as I suspect it was wear in the plastic gearbox more than wear on the burrs themselves, the direct drive on the more expensive machine would outlast this by a long way and be cheaper in the long run
