Re: Grinder for Syphon and Drip

For Syphon/Plunger at work I have an Ascaso I mini dialled in. At home and for camping I use a 40+ year old Zassenhaus hand grinder. Of the two I think the Zass does a better (more consistent) job of grinding, but the Ascaso is faster for work

At home the speed is not an issue as time to grind is a touch less than the time to boil the kettle  8-)

Also I was having a chat to Luca a few weeks ago and the gist of the conversation was that high end espresso grinders do not necessarily grind as well as some of the cheaper ones for manual brewing .

I use a mazzer mini for plunger/syphon. I havent noticed any difference in taste between the mini & the K10 for syphon.

I have access to some hand grinders + an em480, it would be interesting to do some tests to see if they actually give a better result for syphon than the mini.

I have used the Zassenhaus for syphon but it only does enough for one cup at a time, the grind quality is good (even) but as has already been said, the coarser the grind the less even the Z grinds it.

I am using a Rocky for syphon and stovetop coffees. I was fortunate I couldnt bring myself to sell it after a few upgrades.

I used the Macap M4D a few times for syphon, but struggled to dial it back in again for espresso.

I was thinking of converting my LSM into a doserless unit sometime into the future and then using this exclusively for the various manual brew methods I use. Its a bit of a behemoth though so after its restored and converted, Ill have to see how it looks parked next to my other gear... Was thinking of getting it powder-coated Bezzera Red so it might blend in a bit better after that
