Re: New M4 arrived today
Oh nice! They are a great grinder. I use the M5 at work, and bought the M4 for home.
Good little grinder, purty looking too!

Re: New M4 arrived today
Thanks Mal, i only have espresso anyway, so i was sort of on the same track as you mentioned about varying conditions. I just like to have a reference, so i guess just a few turns either way i should be OK with a test or 2.
Thanks Again
Lozzo

Re: New M4 arrived today
Gday Lozzo,
I wouldnt really worry about it too much mate, since there are a number of factors that affect the correct grind setting for espresso. What might have been a good setting for a particular bean in the afternoon today, is no guarantee that this will remain the ideal setting for the same coffee any other day or time. Trying to keep track of grind settings for different coffees will only result in your becoming extremely frustrated.... Chasing your tail as it were.
Best thing to do, is just to dose, distribute and tamp as per normal then if the shot isnt pouring somewhere within the ideals of the Golden Rule, adjust your grind setting accordingly. Micrometric adjustment systems dont really lend themselves to coping with wide variations of grind settings, e.g. from espresso to plunger and back again so if youre likely to be wanting to do this, then it would probably be better all round to purchase a smaller dedicated "manual brewing method" grinder and just leave your M4 dedicated for espresso usage; that is what it is designed for after all.
All the best
Mal.

Re: New M4 arrived today
I have been using the M4 grinder for a few days now and as it is a stepless one , how do you know what setting it is on?
My coffee has a texture similar to salt , but is there a pointer that tells you where you are on the fineness, i know the numbers around it are referred to `as a general guide`. but how do i keep a track of settings for different coffees?
the small knob that adjusts at the back, is the number in front of that a general guide or is it the number on the side?
A little lost at them moment, i am just going on the feel of my coffee at the moment , but i don`t want to adjust too fine, just need to know wherewhen to stop turning the adjuster.

New M4 arrived today
My Macap M4 turned up today from Attilio at CosomoreX Coffee.
What a beautiful machine, i haven`t turned it on yet, still just gazing at it with a silly grin on my face. [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
Thanks a million Attilio!
