If you decide to upgrade the espresso machine sometime in the future the K3 will be able to handle the requirements of a new machine as well

From the Talk Coffee web site
K3 Elite - Doser Model - Micrometric adjustment and a superb dosing action are some features of this well-made grinder.
Australian specification is in platinum finish and includes standard auto-stop.
K3 Touch - Doser-Less - Micrometric adjustment and the ability to set a single or double dose are some features of this well-made grinder. The Compak K3 Touch is supplied in platinum finish.

Ahh i see, so it practically comes down to doser and doserless, i doubt the dosers on any of these machines will be correct, then if thats the case, ill just shop around the place for the K3 touch and alternatives. I also hear dibartoli has a range of grinders, that are able to be tested before purchase, probably be my first stop. Thanks guys. If there are any other comments or suggestions, it would be much appreciated, will keep checking in for the entire week. Thanks once again.

Re: Recommendations for first time grinder?, 500-550 limit
IMHO, the domestic grinders around are basically clustered around a few price points:
You can spend a few hundred bucks and get one of the cheap conical grinders. The ones that I have used for espresso offer quite reasonable grind quality, but they tend to be loud, messy, plasticky and slow.
You can buy a Rancilio Rocky. This grinder is somewhat popular because of rave reviews on the internet, but, IMHO, the current price point of this grinder makes it a poor value proposition new.
You can buy a K3 touch for $600 or whatever they sell at at the moment. This is really the cheapest of the next tranche of grinders and, IMHO, represents pretty good value. Grind quality and build quality are pretty good. It has a number of slightly irritating features, such as an awkward position for the power switch, some plasticky parts, awkward timer adjustment and a stupid grinds tray that is nestled into a stupid position in a stupid foot, basically creating more mess than it really solves. All of that said, it should last a fair while and I think that most people would be very hard pressed to pick the difference in the cup between this and the established market leaders in this grinder category.
If you spend more money than the compak still, you probably arent going to get a noticeably better cup until you get up to one of the commercial conical burr grinders with a large diameter burr set. What you will get is last-a-lifetime build quality, ease of use and cleanliness. And Ill pause to note that the value improvement might not be proportional to expenditure!
Hope that helps,
Luca

Re: Recommendations for first time grinder?, 500-550 limit
Its not really a question of the dosers "being correct". Firstly, they can be adjusted, secondly and more importantly, not many people use them to "measure" the dose.Originally posted by 3D313739500 link=1243148274/11#11 date=1243157852Ahh i see, so it practically comes down to doser and doserless, i doubt the dosers on any of these machines will be correct,
And if Cremorne is convenient, you can demo the range with us too,
