The click clack lid makes an air tight type seal with the hopper. If you hold the levers on the lid in slightly and gently push the lid up and down into the hopper opening it forces air through the grinder and pushes the ground beans out of the spout that have been caught up between the burrs and the spout.
You would be surprised at how much gets trapped up there!
Damn Luwaks I was not thinking - I had a click clack lid for that Rocky I sold ya which I would have happily thrown in. To be honest I gave up with the click clack lid for two reasons:
1. It clears a bit but not as much as just using a small paintbrush in the shoot.
2. The white click clack lid looked so out of place on top of the Rocky I just could not stand it.
I got the black one too! looks the part, works well, cheap and its another thing to make us look special!, flick flick flick, click clack click clack, flick flick flick, tap tap!......makes us look professional! : lol
the upper burr carrier was already pretty tight and difficult to wind off, but i got it off in the end.. then i tried 3 winds of teflon tape to the thread...no chance of getting it back in place! (tape just stuck)
With a single wind of tape only, it goes back most of the way... im unable to tighten it any further by hand, but it looks too high still - about 5mm separation when viewing the burr carriers through the outlet "window"
now im unsure if ive wound the upper burr carrier back in at the correct height
i havent had the courage to turn the machine back on yet & test whether metal will hit metal.
To test the "zero point" screw burr carrier down until it stops and then try and turn the burr on the motor by hand. If it wont move, but does move when you back off the carrier by 10-15 degrees, that was the zero. If the motor turns by hand with the carrier down tight, its not tight on the burr.
ah, i was too cautious when i tightened, and turned backward a full turn from zreo point. 10 deg or so, and grindr is fine now.
though the teflon tape didnt really seem to acheive much :S
i have to agree..that click clack lid is a lifesaver! both for keeping beans fresher, but a quick slam (or two) on the top of the lid is ideal for getting those old grounds out.
I could hardly believe how many grounds get trapped around the burrs and in the chute!! about 8 grams, at a guess.
