Can they???-undoubtedly the answer is yes.
    Do they???-very rarely if ever.

and of course there is that completely undefined term--"really good".

I cant see that anyone has mentioned that a problem with any equipment that integrates two separate functions is what happens if one function breaks down?

If it happens to the grinder then you are without a coffee maker while it gets repaired - you cant even use pre-ground  :P

For my money Id go with two units

    Generally speaking, the options of

    (Grinder) + (Machine) = Total

    or

    (Grinder + Machine) = Total

would lead me to believe that if you have the budget, having a grinder housed separately leads to fewer issues and gives you more options if you find one part of the equation doesnt meet your needs.

Does that translate to cheap Chinese knockoff?
Not sure it matters. Both decent grinders good value in their own right.

The article says the burrs are based on the lux set so not actually lux burrs.

There are plenty of superauto users that are very happy with their equipment, and when the time comes for a new machine, will go out an buy another superauto.
Totally agree with this comment, a superauto IMHO is all about a the fine line between ease of use, speed of coffee making etc etc and the ability to what is considered an acceptable coffee by the end user using the machine.

Lets face it, most people going down this path want the convenience that is similar to instant but realise there is so much better than instant available.

I think you need to put the question into context about the situation the unit will be used in in order to give a fair answer.

I have always believed that the EM0480 has Lux burrs. Seen this stated on many websites. An example that I have quickly found is:

mod edit to remove link to commercial site

If you do buy an all in one machine you will certainly want to upgrade it in the future.

    Gday DrCoffee....

The Burr-set used by Lux and other European small Conical Burr grinders is manufactured by a company called Trespade.... Dont know that Sunbeam or any other Chinese manufactured grinder sources their burrs from this company :-?

Some good general info about a range of different grinder types here.... http://tinyurl.com/lgdtgz

    All the best,
    Mal.

Back on topic, the question is, "Can really good cappucino machines have inbuilt grinders?"Well, my answer is, "No".Think about it - when was the last time you saw an espresso machine with built in grinder at any reputable cafe, or any cafe for that matter.
Their high output would certainly have to be a big factor wouldnt it?  I havent seen a silvia in a cafe either so must be crap!!

P.S. drcoffee take what you will out of the opinions on here. It is your decision after all. If you do buy an all in one machine you will certainly want to upgrade it in the future. If you have the money spend $2k+ and only do it once. It is worthwhile.

And therein lies a big, big difference.

Sure a full auto is rubbish and has hygeine issues
Ill strongly disagree. Superautos are designed for a purpose, and the better ones accomplish this and do a pretty OK job. Ive come across more than a few that make a better coffee than the local cafe.

As for hygeine issues, this lies in the hands of the operator, and again, there are a number of cafes I dont frequent because I dont like their hygeine standards.

They both use the Lux burrset dont they? That is how I understood it. That aside the lux grinders are well respected on here anyway.

AM. I understand your opinion but also for the fact that drcoffee is a new user I dont think that your original post gave him all the info hence my reply. I think it is better he has all the information to make his own decision. Sure a full auto is rubbish and has hygeine issues but the question was that of whether or not there was a machine with a built in grinder that does a good job and I still believe the answer is yes and that lies in the machines that were mentioned.

It just so happens that the grinder in the machines nemox/quaha machine mentioned above has the same burr set as the sunbeam.
This is the first Ive heard of that.
If it were true, then you would have to say that hte Sunbeam has the same set as the Nemox/Quaha (as they were in existence first).
