you should be feeling a little resistance when you lock the group handle into the machine
Yep, Ive got to the point of "looking for it" as I get a much better shot when theres just a little resistance there.

    to be very gassy
Which would explain the almost all frothy crema pours Ive had earlier on in using the fresh beans.

Did your salesperson set your machine to 9 bar as part of a bench test?
Nope, Im figuring I was going to ask for it to be adjusted a the "1 year service". But maybe its something I should do sooner.

    Thanks for your reply.

Hi, Ive recently replaced my Sunbeam 5800 machine with a Diadema Junior Plus Semi.

Ive noticed of late (especially with the fresher the bean), that Ive pretty much had to ratchet down my Rocky Doser to the "Zero" grind setting to achieve a decent pour.  Ive tried courser grinds, doses, and varying tamps... but the pour remains too fast, unless its wound down to zero.

However, after about a week after the roast date of the beans, things seem to return back to normal.

So, I suppose my question is... should I wait a week for the beans to "Settled down", or do I have a legitimate excuse to upgrade my trusted rocky grinder?

    Thx

    Hi Merr1,

Assuming that you are dosing correctly, there seems to be a little variation there...

If your Rocky is in good nick, it should be adequate. That said, many buyers look to something better: Mazzer mini/Macap M4/5, Compak K3T or similar.

As a starting point, you should be feeling a little resistance when you lock the group handle into the machine. Keep in mind that very fresh coffee will tend to be very gassy and may not neccessarily be the best drinking. Many commercial blends will peak anywhere from 8-21 days or thereabouts...

The Junior Semi-Auto ships withthe OPV valve set to about 12 bar. This will make it tend to push through the shot and gush the last 10-15 ml. This 12 bar setting is not uncommon on many brands, but is not optimum..

Did your salesperson set your machine to 9 bar as part of a bench test?

    Good luck..
