    Re: Removing Burrs

Thanks for the tips guys. Ive decided to wait until new screws arrive before I replace the current burrs (As I want to replace some of the screws on the top carrier). The wear is only on the top carrier so I imagine somebody Tried to replace the burrs in the past but gave up after they couldnt remove the top burr. However I will definitely check the levelness of the bottom burr assembly and make sure it is thoroughly cleaned.

The lower burr-carrier shouldnt be too hard to remove....

Arrest rotation by blocking the rotor with a small piece of hardwood (or similar) through the discharge chute and then loosen off the nut securing the burr-carrier. Once youve got it removed, use which ever method you found has worked with the upper burr-plate.

Something to be aware off with replacing burr-sets, especially if the grinder was purchased second hand and has signs of obvious attempts to remove/replace burr sets in the past; is to ensure that the surfaces of the carriers and the burr-plates are perfectly clean and flat. Failure to attend to this may lead to burr sets which run out of true and thereby become useless for accurate and consistent use as an espresso grinder.

Ive even found damage caused to burr carriers in the past which made it impossible to reseat the burr sets even close to being accurate, so it is something worth doing and doesnt take long to rectify, if needed.... 8-)

Impact driver as noted above on the burrs that have been removed
Dont use an impact driver on the bottom burr if still attached to the motor

    This is a bush trick
Place it in the oven 180 deg C for ten minutes then try to unscrew
Use appropriate protection such as oven gloves to prevent burns

    Re: Removing Burrs

    Heya,

I just did a burr replacement on my Anfim Milano. I had similar probs with the screws (the burrs hadnt been replaced in about 6-7 years).

If you can get hold of an impact driver, thats ideal. Otherwise, what I did with mine was to use a very sturdy screwdriver and hammer, and give the screws a sharp rap or two. This should loosen them enough to allow unscrewing.

The screws were still technically re-useable (ie nothing wrong with the threads), but the screw heads were half-stripped, so I spoke to the guys at ECA (<----- over there in the sponsors section), and they located and sent me some new screws to use.

    Good luck

    Caff.

    Removing Burrs

Ive finally got new burrs for the S. Lusso and I have had a go at removing the upper burr but the screws are in very tight (and show signs of minor stripping from a previous removal). I can start to move two of them but the third resists.
    1) Does anyone know the best way to remove these (flathead) screws without stripping? And what do I do if further stripping occurs?
    2) How do I go about securing the bottom burr so I am able to remove it?

    Thanks in advance
