  • Hard to adjust mazzer

It is getting very hard to adjust my 5 year old mazzer mini.
You need to apply some real force to the adjustment collar to get it to turn very slightly.

Could it be the springs are getting very stiff or could i havei cross threaded the collar on the last clean i did.

I figure if i cross threaded it i would have noticed it, but it spins on easily enough until it gets to the springs which apply the pressure, then it get harder from there.

Get some food grade grease and apply it to the thread. I doubt you have cross threaded it, It would be obvious and imo a thread of that size be very difficult to do.

Yep a good strip & clean apply a little grease
Adjust grind while machine burrs are spinning will also make it easier

          Actually,

I wouldnt put any grease in there. A better idea would to grab some powdered graphite from a local locksmith or hardware store and then brush a little into the threads of both parts. Should work great and will not be a magnet for ground coffee particles...

amen to that Mal Also... be careful while adjusting the collar while grinder is running (especially if youre winding it in after a dismantle). Much damage to be done if it reaches Zero by accident!

              Re: Hard to adjust mazzer

If you are reassembling after a dismantle there would be no need to have the unit running because there should be no beans in it to cause a jam.

                Re: Hard to adjust mazzer

thanks for the tips, will look in the hardware store for some powdered graphite.
Just to clarify, i only have it working when adjusting grind, not after a clean and re-assemble

                  Re: Hard to adjust mazzer

I think i let this one go too long now.
Today i finally decided to pull it all apart and give it a good clean. Apply some graphite to the threads to make it easier to adjust.

                  WELL WELL WELL

i can not turn it at all now It is stuck so badly that i broke the little lever that screw into the side to help adjust.

Thats not an issue ans can easily replace it, but there is no hope of getting the adjustment coller off now

                  any tips?

I hope you did not cross thread the collar when re assembling

If not & In any case you dont need the adjuster rod to unscrew it

Sorry to hear it John....Sounds like you have cross threaded it to me It should move even without a lubricant.

I am thinking some protective rubber and a very big vice? Hope there is not too much damage.... :-/

                        Re: Hard to adjust mazzer

i had a funny feeling i may have cross threaded it last time, and i dare say this confirms it.

I was looking at a new grinder as you know but did hope to sell this one. Not looking good now.

Can i spray anything onto the threads to get it off, then have it inspected.
Also any way i can tell if its been cross threaded

Possibly a lubricant/dispersant and then it will need a real good clean...

My advice though, take it to Anthony at Genovese. They are an importer and will have the right gear to do the job properly....

                            2 possibilities on this

1] If you have cross threaded the collar it will be rare that it would be possible to wind the collar all the way down

2] If it is wound down all the way its possible that its locked the top & bottom blades together

                              thanks again guys

will now give the lubricant a go and see how i go

Sort of agree with KK, if it was threaded, it should have been very hard if not impossible to wind it all the way back down again.

                              fingers corssed

have sprayed it and will now let it soak in for a while
