    Re: Hard to adjust mazzer

In the US, adusting the grind when the grinder is stopped can void the warranty with some resellers at least. The grinders come with what LOOKS like white lithium grease on the threads. I tried food safe silicone (Dow 111) and it did not work well AT ALL!. Went with a small schmear of Campy grease worked well into the threads so that it would not enter the grinding area and it works great.

Fortunately in Australia retailers dont make their own rules

Well took it to work with me today and had the fitters take a look.
We used a leather oil filter remover to get it off. Took a fair bit of effort though. Once we got it moving, then the rest by hand was easy enough.

Looking inside, no wonder it was stuck. The build up of old coffee was very thick.

Does not look like it has been cross threaded and everything has now been thoroughly cleaned.

Once everything dries, will put it back together again and see how it all goes.

Have read posts of people rubbing a little bit of olive oil on the threads, not sure how much of a good idea that is though

My gut feeling as I hinted above re cross-threading was gunk & solidified coffee as you described

Brush & Vacuum all the threads on both top and bottom burr sections for best results

Only add graphite on the brass touch rings or the contact points of the top burr carrier and the grinder body

Good to hear it was stubborn but easy once it got going

I am very relieved that no damage was apparent on the threads ;D

            Re: Hard to adjust mazzer

and now for the best news.

I pulled it apart completely, to remove all traces of built up muck.
Cleaned up the adjustment collar and every other part with a range of things from toothpics, hard bristle brushes and toothbrushes. Blew everything out with an air blower and vacuumed everything else.

Decided i was not going to apply any grease at all to the threads. I figure this way less chance of stray ground coffee getting stuck on them again.
I thought, if its not smooth enough, i will take the collar off again and lightly grease the first 1/4 of it only which makes contact.

After re-assembling, it is just like new. Very easy to adjust grind indeed.

Now i just need to order the little adjustment pin which i snapped off whilst trying to remove the collar yesterday.

A happy chap once again i am.

A big thanks yet again to KK for all his help in this matter and to the boys at work
